“Western modernisation was fraught with crimes such as war, the slave trade, colonisation & plunder, which inflicted untold misery on many countries. Having long suffered from aggression, bullying & humiliation by Western powers, we Chinese are keenly aware of the value of peace & will never follow the well-worn path of the West. The biggest problem with Western modernisation is that it is capital centred rather than people centred & seeks to maximise capital gains rather than serve the interests of the vast majority of people.” Xi Jinping

The proof of the pudding is the eating. Just look at the reality and facts of how amazing China is today. That is undeniable. ❤

Thousands of years to refine and evolve for China, nothing is perfect with human endeavour. China may ve found a balance for her citizens with peace and prosperity without going to war with everyone.

Thank you Li for inviting Zhang and bringing this valuable discussion to us. Confirming as you do that future good governance will need to be ethical, disciplined, authoritative, trustworthy, economically efficient and sustainable. At present (2024) there are very few forms of nation state governance that can meet these criteria. Most neo-Liberal democracies have long since morphed from being profit driven to now being profit obsessed and hence most if not all such forms of governance cannot meet this criteria for good future government. Some neo-Socialist forms of governance are meeting some of the above criteria, with the People's Republic of China (PRC) being the best example so far with what it calls Socialism with Chinese characteristics.

Very nice segment. As someone who is fascinated by Chinese culture and studying from the outside I appreciate these discussions.

Mutually assured prosperity is the only way forward.

The biggest difference between the western countries and China is not their different political systems but rather their different economic models that they use in order to live and to prosper.
In order to live and to prosper, China relies on the hard work, ingenuity and dedication of its people, and on trade and peaceful cooperation with other countries. In the process, China helps other countries to prosper also.
In order to live and to prosper, the western countries, for their part, relies on stealing the wealth of the non-western countries, using brute force (military power) and other devious means such as lies, cheats, blackmails, sanctions, etc., to carry out their robberies. The western countries have been using this model for the past 500 years during which they have stolen the equivalent of thousands of trillions of dollars worth of wealth from the non-western countries. In the process, they impoverished all the non-western countries and murdered over one billion people in the non-western countries.

This was so beautiful it made me cry.
This morning reading thru comments on a U.S. channel there was repeated over and over, Americans saying AI will take away people's jobs so horrendous tariffs should be put on China so that jobs will return to the U.S.
I made the comment "are they happy to remain in the world of hammers and nails" 😂 and did it occur to them that the world should not stagnate, but move forward consistently. I ventured a solution. Always seek higher skills and education.
AI for instance, will create just as many maintenance, sales, etc.
I am reminded by their recent dock workers strike where a key point of the Union demands was to eliminate all technology use in the ports.
Such a Neanderthal mindset will further their collapse more quickly.
Apparently the overall current ideology in the U.S. is to isolate their nation and return to the world of hammers and nails.
So be it.

Always a pleasure to listen to Prof. Zhang WeiWei.
When China announces that they are doing something, Big or Small projects, they have already completed 95% of the project.
It is unlike other countries, they announce when they have a concept of an idea and IF the idea ever gets off the ground, will be completed is couple of decades, if at all.
This is what has amazed me about China for the last 12 years living here.
All I can say, 加油,加油,加油❤

Thanks Jingjing. Weiwei theorizes well. But this must stand the test of times going forward. 40 some years are not enough. While Civilizational arguments do not hold much water.
China’s famous diplomat was asked once what he thought of the French Revolution, and he answered “it was too early to tell”
We all pray China will keep up the great works till such time that it becomes self evident. Worldwide. Amen 🙏

I used to think of China as an oppressive dictatorship. Until I got interested in Chinese culture. I started learning the language and learning about the country's history. We are mistaken... We want them to be like us at all cost, but this is shameful and wrong. The Chinese society already works perfectly, even some stuff that we criticized about them in the past, now we are copying it to our own societies. We now must work together, exchange knowledge culture between both societies, with time what is bad will fade away and what is good will stick for both sides. I will give an example: We used to criticize the huge amount of security cameras and vigilance tech, now this is the big dream of any city in the world, people realized that it provides security. Time proved that they were not wrong, they was just ahead of time.
