Beowulf, lines 1-3

A mini-lecture, explaining the first sentence of Beowulf. I did this some years ago, thinking I would make a series of little lectures on syntax and style in Old English poetry—but I made only three. I'm putting them here now in case they help anyone get started reading poetry.
