The two countries couldn't be more different. In one of them, people love watching football, drinking beer and eating döner kebabs. In the other--hang on.

England or Britain and Germany has such a long connected history. The first languages of the german frisian people and first english people were exactly the same. Its so crazy that our languages come from that time, but envolved so different. It has a reason, why german and english have so many similarities in language. sometimes i just need so speak the german words in an english accent and english people could understand. Ofcourse its not always the case, but very often

Prior to the world wars English people and German people were highly Germanophilic and Anglophilic, loved and influenced each others art, architecture, music, poetry, traditions and so fourth, and many English people would call ourselves German if a bit anachronistically as the English people came from modern day Lower Saxony and Schleswig-Holsten Germany.
We're connected to them.
The world wars are unfortunate.
And by we I mean they, I'm technically just American with English descent 😂

Out of British English and American English, the first one sounds more similar to German. It's amazing that how a language change its sounds while moving one place to another.

I love the German language because it sometime sounds like they're speaking English with an accent so deep that I can't understand

Both are same long lost Germanic brothers. It’s a shame they have to fight each other in WW2.

The real enemy actually won WW2 😢

one for the differences column: the brits are still weirdly obsessed with their class system and medieval systems of governance

brits never really confronted their colonial history, while germans are acutely aware of their history and have managed to humbly aknowledge it and move forward

My grandad got upset about the war, he said we shouldnt have fought and killed our German brothers and sisters, look at the world now.

Ok, similarity: both countries have a favour for sausages. Difference: Germany produces good and delicious sausages, England not as much. 😅

England is a Germanic country, the Anglo Saxons were Germanic tribes who migrated from north and west Germany and Denmark

Germany culture more about Collectivism, a focus on the collective good, and the UK is more Individualism, a focus more on me, myself and I matters more - the more hardcore Capitalist.
German political system hangs very much in centre ground and coalition based which prevents extreme swings from creating sociopolitical instability. The UK is much more volatile. One thing for sure most Germans and rest of Europe see the UK has self sabotaged its advantages by leaving EU to go it more on its own and get zero benefits in doing so.

Don‘t agree with the humour. Germans are WAY more sensitive when it comes to humour.

They promote health and like to spend time actively. Not in the pub or for 7 days in the holidays bar.
That's why UK NHS bill is above 200 billions.
They eat more healthy food
They are far better at maths and learning lenguages.
Etc
