JT as former caseih mechanic I can tell you the power shift control valves were problematic. Especially those that were not taken good care of hydraulic fluids. Judging by battery setup I doubt if this one was. The main valve has 4 spool valve to control the 4 power shifts. It's possible to remove and clean each without taking off valve unit. However if bad enough may not hurt to clean all passages. Using drill you can polish each of the spools with fine sand paper. If memory serves me correctly they are labeled c1, c2, c3 and c4. If a problem in particular shift occurs you can figure out 1 of 2 valves are the problem.

I feel ya with that sold gear oil, in '96 December it was -20 F and I had to replace the drive chain on a Case 1845c skid. IT HURT SO BAD I couldn't feel my arms from the elbow down for a week. Cold gear oil is Wicked !!
