This is a very understated problem. As an adoptee, thank you for bringing attention to this.
I met my Birth Father in person when I was 22. Before that, we talked very sparsely since I was approx 16.
He used to ask me what I was wearing when he'd call. He would only call me when he was driving somewhere. When our DNA test was pending, he said that if it turns out we weren't "kin" then we could be special friends.
I have 2 younger siblings from him, both 4 and 6 years younger than me. He would complain about his wife to me.
She never let us be alone with each other on any of my visits and although it was annoying at first, I now understand.

It is extremely challenging to understand how Katie just... died. She never got to make art, she never got to go to college. She was born, she was coerced into having her father's baby, and she died. People usually praise very neutral emotionless reporting but I feel like this sort of story (and a lot of true crimes stories) should be shared with feeling. We’re human and seeing other humans hurt in some of the worst ways possible should illicit strong reactions

I watched a documentary about a man who was given up for adoption. When he was 19 he went to meet his mother she took him into her home and eventually her bed. She instigated it. He eventually ended it because he was getting thoughts of unaliving himself from the guilt. I feel so bad for children who end up in these sick scenarios.

Honestly the biggest mistake of this entire thing was that her adoptive family werent told about the abuse she faced as a baby. Had they been told about that they couldve discussed that with Katie, gotten her a therapist, she wouldve worked through that unearthed trauma and still been here today.
