It makes sense historically. In less civilized times, these men would rise to as dominant a position as they possibly could. Often leaving a trail of bloodshed in their wake. They weren't to be messed with unless you were playing for keeps.
So a woman who hitched her wagon to such a man might not be treated wonderfully by him, but she and any kids they had would stand a better than average chance in an uncivilised world... Provided she could get him to stick around.

As a male caregiver, it seems people appreciate good people more when they are much older & in need of someone else helping them vs younger women under 30 find “good hearted” men repulsive.

Yet, I kinda understood women more on that aspect when a guy told me some women avoid good men due to the fact that women themselves are “nice” to people in a way to manipulate them, so when they see a man being nice, they instinctively believe he’s trying to manipulate them.

I'd say women are attracted to the image that these people portray rather which is usually very different from who they actually are. Low conscientiousness for example is completely unattractive in everyone - but they can make themselves look like they are conscientious. Low agreeableness is attractive in men, as long as it isn't pathological - and it's not immediately obvious that (when) it is pathological. Etc.q

These traits can sometimes help a person be more successful financially, and yes, financial security is attractive to women. But being with someone long term who is narcissistic and highly disagreeable is not secure or attractive. Healthy woman who have developed greater discernment understand this and do not find this attractive.
