It's not BYD vs TESLA. It's BYD with TESLA. TESLA did not turn a profit until 2020. And it was precisely after TESLA started selling made in cars by the end of 2019. The two go hand in hand. BYD batteries are found in many TESLAs.

How's the long term reliability of the BYD car after 5 years? Initial pricing isn't the only factor.

The video isn't revealing BYD was already way ahead of Tesla in sales when Elon Musk was laughing in 2011. Tesla later surpassed them as he predicted BYD's E6 cars would not sell well in the world market. BYD ended up selling the E6 mostly in China due to low sales and poor consumer reception due to the E6's high cost (~$56, 000 in China). Tesla released the Model S in 2012 beating BYD to the world consumer market putting Tesla into the history books instead of BYD. In 2023 the Tesla Model Y was the top selling car in the world AND more importantly ALSO IN CHINA in 2023 (that includes gasoline cars). BYD could have gone down in the history books as the company that started the EV revolution but it ended up being Tesla when the BYD E6 failed in the world consumer market and ended up mostly in taxi fleets. This left an opening for Tesla to grab as Elon Musk predicted in 2011
