America was a signatory to the 1945 potsdam declaration that recognised the Spratley islands belong to China. But conflict sells weapons to the Philippines and the Philippines did not read enough history to understand whose islands they are trying to steal

So the Philippines is back to their colonial status like in the past centuries after the regime change and completely subordinated to the US again. The US negotiates for them with China and decides what in its interest, which is of course what the US interest is. What's also interesting is that it's clear what the US wants, that is to get China back into a subordinated position, but it's far from clear what China wants, cooperation with the US (which is impossible if China keeps getting stronger), or confrontation, which is unavoidable if China keeps getting stronger economically and military.
