XDefiant Is Actually Proving A Point...

In this video, I dive into my thoughts on XDefiant, Ubisoft's new free-to-play shooter. While XDefiant brings a lot of fun to the table, it doesn't do much to stand out in the crowded FPS market. Some players criticize it for not being a game they'll sink 1000+ hours into, but I'm here to tell you that's perfectly okay. Not every game needs to be a massive time investment. With the industry's focus on maximizing player engagement through FOMO and live service mechanics, it's refreshing to just play a game for fun and move on when you're ready. #xdefiantgame #xdefiantgameplay

XDefiant is a perfectly middling CoD-type experience, and that's just fine for F2P, just like Ironsight. It does remind me of Dirty Bomb, too. But really, all XDefiant has to do is stick around past the usual 1-2 year CoD lifecycle. IW, even with amazing gunplay, has no content, and even that dries up real quick grinding for peanuts on some of the worst maps ever devised, especially while battle passes are still live, Treyarch balance soon runs off a cliff, and no one cares about Sledgehammer. XDefiant just needs to provide something playable to come back to when the previous 1-2 or more CoD games become unplayable, often due to cheaters and terrible Warzone balance and optimization affecting 6v6.

If we’re gonna keep battle passes company’s needs to stop with the time fomo as it’s so nice jumping into a game like helldivers or chivalry 2 and knowing all the content is there to work through at your own speed.

XDefiant strikes a chord with me that I haven't really felt since 360 era Call of Duty and I'm here for it. Been playing since launch and having a good time.

You make such a great and accurate point about people wanting one game to be their "end all, be all" game.

I love trying new shooters. Apex is my main, but throughout its life cycle, I've tried so many other shooters. Keeps my main more fresh, and I have fun trying new stuff.

On a side note, I will say that playing Xdefiant has made me realise how much of a legendary run COD4 to Black Ops 2 was for the COD franchise.

Been having fun on Xdefiant but sniping just seems fucking ridiculous. I find myself constantly getting insta sniped in higher rank lobbies.

I’ve been having fun with but I just feels like I’m shooting marshmallows.

When they fix the hit reg issues, they'll have a great game. But I just uninstalled because fights aren't reliably fair. I kill an opponent around a wall, or they kill me around a wall. They soak up eight bullets and kill me in three, all while bunny hopping backwards. Sometimes I kill an enemy so fast I wonder if they were already injured, and sometimes the same gun is a pea shooter. The game's poor net code is rewarding super-aggressive play. Slower guns like marksman rifles and snipers are in a bad spot to begin with and are even worse with bad hit reg. I played FPS games on early-2000s internet with better hit reg and server lag.

I appreciate the Ironsight throw back, I did have fun with that game, same way I am with Xdefiant it's not my main game but I enjoy it here and there.
Helldivers 2 has taken the place as my main due to them respecting my time! (Battle passes don't timeout)

Glad you're enjoying XD man! I think the right perspective is that this game can stand on its own and carve its own lane in gaming. It doesn't have to be a "killer IP" in order for it to be successful or for people to have a good time.

Hit register is absolutely horrendous. I like the game but don’t really take it seriously because of that issue. Feels too much like a mobile game.

Whether you love or hate Helldivers 2, as a premium game you have to buy, the fact that the battlepasses can be completed at the player's leisure, and that the premium currency can totally be looted in game, is a business model I wish all premium live service games would adopt. And yeah, I wish f2p games would as well, while offering players an incentive to spend money if they wanted to, without giving f2p players fomo, but I know that is a bit of a pipe dream.

What I hate though, is a game like Call of Duty, yeah Warzone is f2p, but if you want 6v6 arena gameplay with objectives, like xDefiant, you have to pay 70, to have that f2p battlepass model attached to it, is why I stopped buying CoD after 2019.

The irony of calling out the live service junk. That’s what XDefiant is… just wait until that battle pass drops. At least it’s free.. movement feels like clunky trash but have fun.

played this game and it made me want to go back to The Finals. why? The Finals is just a more fun experience to me, once you learn the little details and don't just pick it up for 5 hours and be like "this sucks why am I dying?"
I was a BIG Black ops 2 player and it still is one of my favorite online experiences to date. but The Finals comes close imo
anyways sorry for gushing about a different game LMAO

I don't like it. The gunplay is so unsatisfying and the movement feels really stiff. Never been a fan of abilities/ultimates with cooldowns in shooter games either.

Netcode in xdefiant reminds me of the dark days of battlefield 4, ugh.

XDefiant helps bring my casual FPS friends together. I can't convince my friends who aren't good at shooting games to shell out $60 to play COD and have a sucky time because I might drag them into a skill-gapped lobby. I joined with 2 buddies yesterday, one of my friends was level 1 and he managed to go 20/5 after not really having played FPS's in a long time. He's an average FPS player at best. We joked that we should start a pro e-sports team after that one win lmao.

I just like that it's easy to pick up for all, solid gun play, and don't have to try hard to have a good time. I like that guns are locked behind challenges instead of levels, so you actually have to mix up your playstyle as well & not just running meta guns. And actually having objective game modes and no TDM mode makes it less sweaty but you can still have an impact on the game.

I can also recommend to play The Finals. Really fun game.

"Really, what the publishers have been trying to do for years now is to make their one game your sole source of time suck. They want you to put all of your time, money and engagement into that one game"

This. Add in the fact that it feels like they are trying to monopolize your storage space with with their 300+ GB games so that you're really only stuck with CoD and maybe a small handful of other games.

I play at minimum 3 different shooters. Rn I'm playing The Finals, XD, and overwatch in that order. I bought the BP for the finals because the way they do cosmetics is the best I've seen in any shooter. There are like 18 slots for your character that you can mix and match clothes and the drip is insane. I've never played a round where I'm dressed exactly like someone else and that is cool to me.

The finals is the most slept on game rn and season 3 looks crazy. I love XD though
