I enjoy lying leg curls drastically more. Get a better mind-muscle connection, feels good on my lower back, and seated variation hurts my knees due to the lack of stability compared to lying.

For me, lying leg curls absolutely kick my ass in the best possible way! I do 10-20 reps, get an insane stretch and huge pump, and the last reps makes me make a bunch of borderline obscene involuntary pain grunts.

Also, I've gotten a lot stronger in that exercise.

Maybe seated leg curls are more optimal. But lying leg curls definitely work well enough that I do not actually care.

To read research, you need to have an understanding for statistical significance, sample sizes etc. This is before we adjust for the assumptions made in specific studies.

Tom Platz said "The hardest things, are usually the best". Seated leg curls are picnic compared to lying leg curls. Plus you're training calves.

Some seated leg curls are built horribly so many lying leg curls actually work better😂 strength curve and handles are better often

I do seated because my gym don't have a lying machine. My previous gym had one though and I can definitely say the lying leg curl machines are far more superior. The knee pads on the seated machines suck and you never find the perfect back setting. On lying machines you just slide up or down naturally til it's perfect.

The seated version hurts my right hamstring (pulled/tore my hamstring a while back) so I just do lying leg curls.

I don't read primary research because every time I do I'm disappointed by the fact that a glass of wine or a block of chocolate do and do not and might but also definitely might not necessarily be good/bad for my heart, hair, cartilage, bone marrow, free testosterone and tooth enamel. Bro, I'm not here for nuance, I need to know the optimal way in which to get my wife drunk on wine and chocolate without making both of us die of heart attacks.
