Alex, I love what you are doing with this channel. I enjoy your car reviews, but these types of informative & technical videos are probably more valuable, and no one else does them. There are so many myths & misconceptions out there about how things work and why engineers & designers do what they do. Videos like this one offer a peek behind the curtain and hopefully pique interest in people to dive to greater depths.

Great tech article. Good balance video length vs. technical detail. I remember well the phasing in of radial tires in the '70's. They were way better than the horrible old bias ply tires in very way. I recently retired from 35 years in the tire bizz. Your question about silica was really good. Early attempts to blend in silica were hampered by a poor wet performance/ tread life compromise which is now solved.

Hey That's my tire. I love Cooper tires. I drifted once (continental) and it was a mistake. My wife got 70'000 miles out of a set of cs4's. And she never got a flat. I use Discoverer on my Suburban. Best ride I ever had. Thank You.

This was incredibly interesting!!! I'm definitely researching my next tire purchase. I have I'm perfections on all 4 of my tires where they connected together. The sidewall creases in then bubbles out and creases in. All I can think is that's where the tire was joined but it makes me slightly nervous plus it looks bad when I shine them up.

Thanks for the video. I’ve got a set of 4 year old tires with 25000 miles that are showing cracks in between tread. Nothing on the side walls. Should I be worried of a blowout or are they just superficial? Thanks for your time and patience .

Good technical video.  I wish you had at least touched on the issue of run flat tires and whether they are going to become mainstream as automakers look for ways to increase mileage by reducing weight such as the spare.

Hi I have a question and found you when searching about tire anatomy. I wanted to make rubber paddles to use as a Snow Blower Impeller kit. I was thinking of using an old tire to cut paddles out of. But now I’m thinking the steel bands would tear up the inside metal cylinder walls. Are there parts of the tire that don’t have the steel bands (i.e. sidewalls)? I need 4 pieces about 2” wide and 5” in length.
