The future of new oil and gas projects in the UK has been thrown into doubt following a landmark decision by the Supreme Court. Judges ruled that the environmental impact of emissions from burning fossil fuels must be considered, when planning applications are granted for new drilling projects.Sarah Finch, who brought the case on behalf of campaigners said they had "just made the future safer".

Government tax revenue from North Sea Oil activities was £10.5 billion (22/23).
By closing down oil and gas we impoverish our future selves.
The country will end up like South Africa.

80% of current oil extraction is exported. They talk of security, so why export the vast majority ?

This is soo stupid, we end up importing our fuel which cost more money and inevitably has worse effects on environment as it needs be transported from the Middle East 😂😂😂

I'm favoured, $22K every week! I can now give back to the locals in my community and also support God's work and the church. God bless America.❤❤❤❤

Yes the price of oil and gas will go up again along with everything else

It is going to be decades before we don`t rely on fossil fuels. So many other every day products are produced from oil, what are they going to be replaced with.

We do need some petroleum products, we should use our own rather than buying it in.

When we are living with power cuts and not able to cook and wash and live a normal life, then see what happens………..

Okay, but then we should stop importing. We can't say that we refuse production due to emmissions of consumption, and then import from elsewhere for the same consumption.

And people wonder why the UK is not doing well economically.

Britain already has minimal impact on the climate. This is posturing nonsense.

Hold on ! David Cameron specifically stated that Rosebank didn’t exist in 2014.

So now we’ll buy oil from abroad at a higher cost and think we’ve actually changed something other than a higher tax 👍

The only difference will be that the fuel prices will probably be higher, but the consumption will be the same. The UK should produce as much oil as needed for the internal market to keep the prices low and improve the economy.

Now, I'm sure, the Tories will claim this needs to move to a higher, European Court to overrule this ruling, because consistency is a disease they always have the cure for.
