Inaugural Lecture of Professor John Underhill, Chair of Exploration Geoscience at the School of Energy, Geoscience, Infrastructure & Society, Heriot-Watt University, 19 November 2014

About the lecture:

In March 2013 the UK was almost plunged into darkness when a cold snap tested our energy supplies and found them stretched to the limit. Whilst a threat to the lights was averted on that occasion, the event has had dramatic ramifications for applied academic research and training provision since it highlighted the stark reality that the UK’s energy supply is stretched taut.

The aim of this inaugural lecture is both to outline the nature of the current energy sources, our options and the role that exploration geoscience has in securing our future energy resources.

An Interesting and Enlightening Lecture. Recent studies has shown that the era of the so-called “easy oil” is ending and the discovery of future reservoir will need more technical expertise along with people who are competent.
