GoPro HERO 6: IN-DEPTH REVIEW (4K)

The GoPro HERO 6 Black is one of the first action cameras to record 4K 60 FPS, 2.7K 120 FPS, and 1080p 240 FPS. I've already compared it to the old GoPro HERO 5 Black as well as the YI 4K+, check out those links above. My conclusion is that this new GoPro 6 has some really nice improvements, like the new H265 compression (HEVC), 6-axis stabilization EIS at 4K30, and really impressive high frame-rates perfect for ultra smooth slow-motion footage. All of that isn't without negatives and top of list, I think the higher price point is a pain point for many who aren't 'professionals' and thus there are other competitor products that are more affordable and producing nice quality action cameras.

Let me know what YOU guys think, is it worth paying the extra $$ for GoPro 6?!

To many people complain about the price, for what you get it is a bargain! If you don't care about quality go with a low end camera. I don't think you can compare others to GoPro, none are waterproof without a case, none of the others match image quality or technology The image stabilization is is way over looked. If your video isn't clear and stable just delete it...

I've been using the GoPro Hero 3+ Black for many years now. I finally want to upgrade and this camera looks perfect. It's not the most advanced, but the price tag is now only $200...thatnks for the review, it'll be a huge step up for what I want to do with it...

In Norway the current price point is 3689 NOK for the Hero5 versus 5590 NOK for the Hero6, making the Hero6 52 per cent more expensive!

I get the go pro 6 today ..it's very good and it's worth to buy it because go pro is the best action cameras and now in 2017 the best go pro camera is hero 6 and it's Amezing

Thank you very much for your excellent review! Concerning bit rates, Hero6 is up to 78 but using H.265 (which has double compression rate compared to H.264). Yi 4K+ is using H.264. Therefore ideally both should have similar quality of images but it seems YI is better. This is bit strange to me. I also guess that H.265 (Hero6) needs much more prepossessing power than H.264 (YI) so that I guess that HERO6 tends to overheat than YI. I really appreciate that you could conduct overheating test of HERO6 and YI4K+ in 4K60P. Thanks.

Hero 6 uses HEVC, so it can get away with using a lower bit rate.

One question, when focusing near the sun shows some white circles in the video, is there any way to avoid it, have you tried recording without the lens cap to see if it is avoided?

The hero 6 is amazing, but for the price it is not. If you have a wide range of prices, it is perfect for serious recorders. If you are just starting, I recommend the YI 4k.
