How to use Gold Gilding Wax

Gilding is a decorative technique which consists of applying a very thin
layer of gold or other metal leaf to a surface or for those in a hurry, gold wax works a treat!

I thought that because we were starting a new series on designs of a long-lost era – Flemish, Edwardian & Victorian it would be a great time to share how to apply gold wax or leaf to surfaces – namely urns & vases. Gliding can be applied to most surfaces and it's not difficult, just a bit fiddly and time consuming but the end results give any object a lush opulence.

My thoughts are that because it was such a rich opulent time, then the container should reflect this time. Gold leaf or waxes can be found at most good craft stores, or Amazon.

Wow. Just wow. Astar, I am so excited for this series. I’ve got so much going through my head from your first Flemish Fruit and Flower Arrangement and now these two gilding videos. Thank you for sharing!

This is exactly what I needed to see. I have some picture frames and did not know how to give it a slight gold brushing rather than drape it in gold leaf which is too opulent, and also costly. So, perfect timing.

fyi - I'm guessing you are Australian? or British?
Please bring camera close up to the piece, and tilt it so we can see the gold shimmer and get a better idea of color, texture, and richness. The light is not optimal, and camera is too far.

Whoa!!! Never even heard of this stuff, but you’re right… it’s much better!!! Gold leaf is just TOO bright, but this looks so beautiful and realistic.
