How to gild furniture using Annie Sloan Gilding Wax

Annie Sloan demonstrates just how easy it is to gild your painted furniture using her Gilding Wax, using two colours to build up an authentic look.

Annie Sloan developed her unique and versatile decorative paint, Chalk Paint®, in 1990. She wanted to create one paint that could achieve several different techniques and finishes – from creating a textured chippy look to achieving a smooth modern finish, or even creating a wash. Annie's paint is non toxic, low VOC, and very easy to work with. There's no need to prime or sand before starting – you can just get stuck straight in to the fun bit!

Annie's color palate is amazing, subtle to dramatic...something for every project.

Hi, before applying the gold wax, the clear wax underneath must dry first?

I'm looking to paint a gold accent on a piece I painted one solid color. Am I better off using a gold paint or this metallic wax? If I use the wax, should I wait to wax my entire piece until after I've done the metallic wax (my piece is already painted a solid color, I still need to acquire the metallic wax), or can I put it over an already waxed piece? Lastly, would I need to put the clear wax over the metallic wax? Thank you!

I painted a cabinet with Annie Sloan chalkpaint and like to spice it up with gilding wax gold. Can I finish it with clear wax without the gilding wax fades? Thank you💙

Gorgeous.. Thank you. I wanted to add some outline detail to chalk painted furniture and I think I've bought gold paint! Can I use that before I wax it?.. Thank you to anyone who can advise me!

The blue paint, is it Aubussion Blue from Annie Sloan?
It mixes very well with the gold gilding wax!

Will this gilding wax dry hard so it does not get smeared later?

That's gorgeous - is there an easy way to remove some of the guilding wax if you feel you over did it or smudged it somewhere you're not happy with?

I have a vintage mahogany mirror and table of Louise XV style and I dont feel like covering in all in chalk paint but still would like to highlight its artistry. Do you recommend to gild it directly on the mahogany?
