I read A Stranger in Olondria earlier this year and I think about it all the time! I think after reading Samatar's Winged Histories and her newest book "The Practice, the Horizon, and the Chain" I might go search her academic publications. She's a professor of Arabic and African literature and I can't describe how strongly I wish I could attend her classes :')

I haven't read Winged Histories yet but everything checks out for Stranger in Olondria too. It's such a beautiful book. It evoked similar feelings in me that Piranesi did, especially the strong sense of wonder.

So excited to see anyone discussing this. I haven’t yet read this book, but I adore A Stranger in Olondria. I really wish more people read Samatar. I look forward to you reading more of her work in the future.

I’ve got Tender, her short story collection, waiting for when I finish my dissertation in a month or so.

Goodreads lists this as one of two books set in Olondria, but it sounds like you don't have to read the first one (Strangers in Olondria) to appreciate this one?
