The AI giving 6 fingers is the most honest statement of the 21st century.

The first monolith in the movie, I was never sure if it uplifted the primates' enhanced intelligence, or if it was just serving as a centennial, waiting for them to make an evolutionary step and then signal the next monolith -- the one on the moon.

In a 1980 interview (not released during Kubrick's lifetime), Kubrick explains one of the film's closing scenes, where Bowman is depicted in old age after his journey through the Star Gate:

The idea was supposed to be that he is taken in by godlike entities, creatures of pure energy and intelligence with no shape or form. They put him in what I suppose you could describe as a human zoo to study him, and his whole life passes from that point on in that room. And he has no sense of time. ... [W]hen they get finished with him, as happens in so many myths of all cultures in the world, he is transformed into some kind of super being and sent back to Earth, transformed and made some kind of superman. We have to only guess what happens when he goes back. It is the pattern of a great deal of mythology, and that is what we were trying to suggest.

People have lost their attention span, so cannot enjoy a full length movie, nor read a book. Why aren't anyone commenting this is a BEAUTIFUL movie ??

"I'm going to copy that and give it 6 fingers" - Commentary on 2001 A Space Odyssey that could only happen in the 2020s.

The black object reminds me of that one scene from willy wonka when the chocolate fell in with the apes the same exact way😂

"2001: A Space Odyssey" (1968): A band of proto-men are visited by a Monolith and become Killer Apes. Much later, there's a trip to the moon base that looks positively accurate...before the Apollo 11 landing in the Summer of 1969.

For this being a movie that was erected (ppauusee) in like the late 60s/ early 70s l believe.. YOU HAVE TO ADMIT it was incredibly innovative for the time. I mean...A.I. .. The flat scteen computers.. the design of the ship etc. for it being conceived in a time where NONE OF THIS TECHNOLOGY was anywhere close to even being a thought or a blip in someones brain to even try and attempt to build... KUBRICK had the vision to predict all of this stuff.. and either design or consult with set designer's to implement all this stuff into his "futuristic" jump forward to 2001 (loll😂)

Shows how much of a genius this dude was. All of that said....I STILL TO THIS DAY... have no clue as to what the PHUCC... The ending actually MEANS. I've done all the YouTube rabbit holes and still no luck.. lm not EMBARRASSED by it or anything (im lying lol) BUT IF ANYONE HAS THE YODA INSIGHT...PLEASE RESPOND TO THIS COMMENT AND ENLIGHTEN ME. Go on

At this point, I think everyone knows 2001 a space odyssey. It’s literally one of the most famous films ever

Great movie for that era but now ? The soundtrack remains one of best. Kudos to a director who was able to discover the cosmos like never and the turing test.

Our grandparents gave us too much credit. They would have been very disappointed seeing us more like the movie Idiocracy and not 2001.
