There is actually an international treaty concerning this exact topic. The appropriately named Outer Space Treaty includes a provision that, in the case of a space vehicle making an emergency landing in the territory of another country than the one it launched from, the astronauts are to be safely and promptly returned to the state of registry of the space vehicle, no customs necessary.

They didn't spend 3 weeks in the trailer. They were put in it to be transported to the larger residential quarantine facility once they were shipped to the mainland. The Airstream was just for the journey on ship and cargo plane to Houston.

I’m surprised that astronauts don’t have to go through customs. In Australia there was a girl who sailed around the world nonstop and when she sailed into Sydney Harbour she was stopped by customs and go through the relevant procedures before she landed at the dock. Even though she did not land at any port and visited another country.
