Bruce Lee's Surprising Grappling Skills No One Talks About

Let's talk about Bruce Lee's REAL Judo Teachers who taught him about grappling before he ever met Judo Gene Lebell.

When most people think of Bruce Lee, they think of the blinding speed, fast hands, and his famous one inch punch. I mean, Bruce Lee is the guy who was giving out sweet chin music in the movies decades before Shawn Michaels ever stepped into a wrestling ring.

So it's really unfortunate that people have no idea that Bruce actually studied grappling before he was learning how to kick people in the face.

I mean, if you believe what Joe Rogan has been saying for at least a decade, Bruce Lee never knew anything about grappling until he met Judo Gene Lebell on the set of The Green Hornet in 1965 or 1966, but that's not true.

One thing I do admire about Bruce is he really was trying to be good at everything and especially learning many martial arts where at a time people would only master one thing and it was frowned upon to exchange techniques or train with other disciplines.

Interesting with regards to Nishioka saying Bruce was too fast for the point scoring champions of his day., Mike Stone described Bruce Lee as being far too quick for competition & Joe Lewis reiterated by saying Lee was the fastest man to have stood in front of him, so what Nishioka said regarding the speed of Bruce Lee being too fast for those point scoring champions reads true in every sense of the word.

Aside from Judo Bruce also trained in Ju Jitsu with Master Wally Jay. Bruce truly was a great great Martial Artist and way ahead of his time in terms of his theories and his cross-training which many today would call "MMA" or "Mixed Martial Arts."

Great to hear props to Fred Sato. He was my High School Judo teacher (and wrestling coach). I'm always rooting for Judokas because of him. Thanks for the vid.

Well done & explained video. You surely do your research on Lee's training. A lot of people need to view your video to clarify all the false rumors they hear about who actually first taught him Judo. I personally consider Fred Sato as Lee's actual Judo "Teacher" thanks to Jesse Glover who gave him a taste. Keep up the great work

12:55 Karate guys like Chojun Miyagi were also doing the same thing, traveling to China to learn other styles and working with Judoka to enhance their grappling

Very educational, excellent video. Thanks for giving truthful insight into Bruce Lee's grappling experience. Maybe you can do a video on the relationship between Bruce Lee and his karate students: Chuck Norris, Mike Stone and Joe Lewis. All 3 of them were point karate champions before they met Bruce. But only Joe Lewis out of the 3 will admit that he was a Bruce Lee student. Joe Lewis also went on into fight full contact Karate (kick boxing). Norris and Stone stayed with point fighting (which we all know is a game of tag). Norris and Stone never admitted they were taking JKD lessons from Bruce Lee.

Love this channel, brings so much truth and things I didn't know about Bruce Lee. Bruce was born with this gift of martial arts on a heightened level plus he applied hard and rigorous work on a daily basis. I've said the same thing about people who was doing what Bruce lee accomplished in his short life, way before him, but Bruce was a strong influencer and popularized what he practiced. It's something how like, a sponge Bruce could spar with others that new more in their expertise of martial arts, learn it quickly and effectively, in so little time and then be proficient by mixing the martial arts together that worked best for him. Pure genius and Ingenius. Another thing I must say, is don't get caught up with martial arts belts, martial arts are a way of life not the way of belts. Knowing what works best for you, hard work, dedication and sparring are key, to being a good martial artist.

One point about Bruce's College Street school in Chinatown was it had a concrete floor and no mats and this is why groundwork was not practiced. Sigung Richard Bustillo told me that Bruce used to teach takedowns but ended there because of this.🙏
