Hello Dr. Lau. I must tell you I was quite surprised to see your review of my video How To Absorb Textbooks Like A Sponge. The original was recorded before I had any intention of publishing it on YouTube. It was filmed "On The Fly" at a local library for a church group I was leading a number of years ago. Currently on my channel "Be Smarter Faster" I have much newer, better produced videos that provide specific detailed examples using a variety of different types of books. In terms of the impressive results my viewers are having with the ideas I publish, a person only has to look over the extraordinary number of viewers who have posted their enthusiastic comments.

8:25 you forgot the part of taking notes while reading, who is still not a process of retaining information.

While this may seem like he is giving you the "keys to the kingdom", he neglects to mention that while "repetition is the mother of learning", it is SPACED repetition that actually produces appreciable results. If you view several of his other videos, he does start to touch on spaced repetition when he talks about flash cards. In my opinion, he is overlooking the proper way to combine flash cards with your own study notes. I believe that I have a better, more efficient method that requires significantly less conscious effort, but still utilizes the index card method that he discusses.

This would work more so than simply reading it however it is always best to reword for your own understanding and of course after enact active recall when reviewing the subject at a later date.

I don't think it works I mean sure it summarizes the detail but in my classes I am usually asked minute details. The best way from my experience is just to actively read and be engaged by asking questions, predicting, ect; with it as if you are more engaged you are more likely to remember.
