Wichita Lineman" is a song written by American songwriter Jimmy Webb in 1968. It was first recorded by American country music artist Glen Campbell with backing from members of The Wrecking Crew, and widely covered by other artists. Campbell's version, which appeared on his 1968 album of the same name, reached #3 on the U.S. pop chart, remaining in the Top 100 for 15 weeks. In addition, the song also topped the American country music chart for two weeks, and the adult contemporary chart for six weeks. It was certified gold by the RIAA in January 1969. The song reached #7 in the UK. In Canada, the single also topped both the RPM national and country singles charts.

In 2010, Rolling Stone magazine's list of the "500 Greatest Songs of All Time" ranked "Wichita Lineman" at #195. It has been referred to as "the first existential country song". British music journalist Stuart Maconie called it "the greatest pop song ever composed"; and the BBC referred to it as "one of those rare songs that seems somehow to exist in a world of its own – not just timeless but ultimately outside of modern music"....................... My husband is a lineman, and this song makes my heart burst with love for him. These guys work mostly alone and in some precarious conditions. Always happy to have him home safely at the end of the day. 💕

My son Justin was a lineman loved his job and his best friends he worked with. He recently passed away from cancer. He always said good people would look up and wave and that made him feel good.! Now when we look up we know he's in heaven. So now when you see a lineman look up and wave. Lineman work long hours in all kinds of weather. So thank you for the beautiful song I am a lineman for the county! And remember to look up

Got me through a threatened breakdown at the loneliest point of my life. Someone understood where I was. Saved my life. 87 now but will never forget.

My Dad started at Baltimore Gas & Electric in 1947 fresh out of the Navy. Hard working lineman. He retired 40 years later as Supervisor of Overhead Lines for Harford County MD. Dad died one year ago this week at 93. Remarkable man. Miss him so. Glen Campbell, thanks for the music.

1968. I’m 7 years old, standing in the kitchen of our apartment in Birmingham, AL, my mom is making dinner. This song comes on the radio. I can see it and hear it like it was yesterday. My mom died last year and I think of that moment and her every time I hear this wonderful song.

Reading the comments about this song are just as powerful as the song itself . My dad was a lineman for the phone company when I was born. I always thought that I came through those phone lines. My dad Jerry Marshall was a lineman for Ma Bell in Sacramento in the mid 1950's. The most honorable man I ever knew and this song to this day reminds me of it.

TRULY the workman's song. A tribute to every man making an honest living working to provide for his family and public service. An American classic!

This is my dad, he worked for CMP for 40yrs. He's what you vision when thinking of a line worker. 5'10" tall and 190, with forearms like Popeyes. He was a tough but fair man that earned the respect of friends, co-workers and family. It's funny no matter how old you get your heroes don't change...

Comment from another video of this song: "My Dad was a lineman in the Midwest for 35 years.
He walked in 5 minutes late to work one morning and his boss asked him why he was late.
He explained that Wichita Lineman came on the radio as he was pulling in.
The whole crew nodded approvingly and his boss said it was an acceptable excuse.
Glen Campbell was such a legend."

I would not want to be a lineman. Electricity scares the hell out of me! God Bless these guys who do that work so that I can have heat and light and cook my hot dogs!

One of my brother’s friend was a lineman. He was killed in an electrical accident. This song makes me cry and cry. He used to take me for rides on his beautiful Indian motorcycle when I was a little girl.
