What The HELL IS GOING ON With Star Wars Outlaws?

On the surface, Star Wars Outlaws is a dream come true for franchise fans. It's an open-world third-person shooter that embraces the space scoundrel fantasy that defines characters like Han Solo, set between The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. With Massive Entertainment of The Division 2 fame onboard, it should be a slam-dunk.

However, every new reveal makes it feel more generic and formulaic than anticipated. Granted, no one has fully explored the breadth and scale of the title or experienced the entire story, but there's something about the gameplay that's just not clicking, at least not like the best titles in the franchise have. What exactly is going on?

I remember when they showed 'Watch Dogs' at E3 and it looked beautiful, then the actual game's textures looked much blurrier and rough around the edges.
This is giving that. Star Wars Outlaws promised one thing and is delivering a much watered down product that almost looks like an unfinished beta.

And it was not difficult to make it better. They just had to let you create your character and let you be wherever you want in a RPG style, be it a soldier, a mercenary or a force sensitive. There, a Star Wars fantasy game everyone wanted and with replayability. Bug God forbid these publishers making great games now and giving the audience what they want.

Ubisoft is becoming known for their beautiful games, with a lack of depth. Both this game and AC shadows should have been on top of my wishlist, but I am afraid they will disappoint.

I think a bounty hunter angle would have done better for the format of the game, but I'll wait and see how it turns out. A bounty hunter doing contracts for various syndicates and the empire makes sense for all the reputation and heat from the empire a little more intense. That and the customization of a bounty hunter is endless.

I think most of the criticisms are warranted. When Ubisoft is giving us the 1st triple-A, open-world Star Wars game, but they have crazy pre-order prices with a season pass and mission hidden behind a paywall. They are exploiting the fan base through marketing tactics. Hoping gamers' inner fan will make them buy it all out of FOMO. The best thing to do is not pre-order. People who do that are only inviting this model to continue for games.
