ELVIN BISHOP MEETS LOS LOBOS!

On Memorial Day, just a couple of months ago, Elvin Bishop came to a Los Lobos gig, they met for the first time, and he sat in and performed his song “What the Hell is Going On.” It struck a nerve with all who were there and a month later Elvin was in an East LA studio recording that song with the band.

ELVIN, an original member of the Paul Butterfield Blues Band is in both the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame AND Blues Hall of Fame. His solo career started in 1968 and he still travels internationally to play his music.

LOS LOBOS is a preeminent Americana band that has just celebrated their 50th anniversary. These high school friends of Mexican-American heritage have been nominated for 12 Grammy® Awards, winning FOUR of them. The combination of these artists is unique in itself and displays a unity we should all be seeking.

I saw this live this past Memorial Day. Didn’t realize that was the first time they had played together. Elvin definitely lit a small fire under the band that day when they played this song. I remember after they finished the song Cesar commented something like “Wow, we just got our ass kicked” as a compliment to Elvin Bishop. Los Lobos kicked it up a notch or two for the rest of the show. Thanks to Bob Brown for turning a moment of inspiration into reality.
