Great tips
Anything that comes into your home mail, , packages and stuff you bring in with you must be processed immediately….groceries, clothes everything.
A shredder is essential

I found you through Pat and I have to say I've practically watched everyone of your videos on both channels. I have broken/destroyed my leg so I'm stuck in a lot of the day. Thankyou for so much amazing content and for being so lovely! We need more Kays in the world. 💛

I've made an addendum for how I am disposing of items which won't stay: keep it super simple. Stuff either comes with me to work (I work with grad students, they will take those free things), goes to Goodwill, will go to JunkLuggers in the spring, or go in the bins. And even making up one bag/box for one of these places give me that dopamine win sensation.

Going paperless really worked for me. And than I created digital folders to help keep me organize.

It’s my bedroom and closet for me. Unopened mail and laundry that needs to be put away is taking over my bedroom. And my closet is overflowing with clothes that don’t fit or that I probably won’t wear again but I can’t seem to part with. I appreciate the tips.

My struggle spots are the shed and the basement. My husband has been in heaven for 8.5 years and I still need to deal with all the dead or duplicate tools, supplies for “someday” DIY and things I will never use - like his collection of fishing rods. It doesn’t help that my time is more limited now because I work full time and now have to do the chores we used to share by myself. I just need to carve out the time and prioritize it. One of these days.

I am redoing my home office, which means a LOT of decluttering! I have shredded a whole garbage bag’s worth of documents, sold my filing cabinet and old desk on marketplace, and have a donation box going. I have professional organizers coming next month, but I wanted to get a head start and tackle papers and other small items. It’s definitely hard work, but it’s rewarding too!

Decision fatique is my downfall. If something is useful and i like or think i need it but have nowhere to put it is exhausting agony for me.
My area that needs decluttering ASAP is my bedroom. I'm scheduled for hip replacement surgery in 12 days so i'm under the gun to get my room organized, tidy, functional, safe. However, i can barely walk, can't lift anything and have run out of money to pay helpers. I need a miracle!
Oh ain't life grand !! 😁

All I have to do is open the door to look at the garage and I am filled with a sense of overwhelm and dread. I like your tip about getting rid of the donation pile first!

Before beginning a decluttering project, especially a big one, I find it helps to do homework first. Research local charity places that accept donations (their hours, locations, guidelines for what they accept); contact the local DPW for guidelines on what can be trashed or recycled; call a junk hauler for their rates and schedules, etc. Some people I've observed hang onto stuff they think they can sell, or that they want to be sure is responsibly disposed of, or that they think they can give to charity, but without researching in advance, the stuff just gets put in bags or boxes and left in the home or car. I have friends whose living room has looked like a storage pod for a year, full of boxes they keep meaning to bring to a charity place but never quite get around to it. Another friend has two cars that nobody can ride in except the driver, because all the passenger space is loaded with stuff. Finally, decluttering can be a dirty business, so be sure to stock up on cleaning supplies beforehand: gloves, sponges, vacuum cleaner bags/ filters, dust cloths, etc. And have plenty of garbage bags/ cardboard boxes on hand... you'll need more than you think.

My issue is procrastinating on opening mail, I have a cute box and I hide, I mean, put it in, out of sight out of mind…… Bad… bad… bad. I’ve started to set a timer for 15 minutes, write it on my planner, and just do it. I’ve come a long way, but not yet perfect. Thank you for mentioning this. I thought I was the only one!

at this moment i'm doing a massive reorganizing and decluttering in my house! my trouble areas are the garage and the backyard shed where everything goes to die lol. another massive problem is my mother's hoarder tendencies but, i'm slowly pushing her in the right direction

Thanks for telling me to get off my butt and just do it! I went and got rid of all the recyclables in the laundry room and put the donation bags of clothes in the car. Your right it looks much better. I can actually visualize homes for things now. I have been working in the laundry room for 2 weeks 15 to 20 minutes at a time. It's in the basement so there was a lot of non-laundry stuff in that area.

As Mel Robbins always says, "Motivation is garbage!" Thanks for making a video on this topic with helpful tips and steps that I can share with people who are struggling to start.

Thanks for keeping it real. Forget motivation, just do it, that’s how I’m feeling about this laundry I have to fold today…. 😅

My office/craft room are my nemesi👿 when it comes to organizing! I think it’s because I have a different organizing style in this room than the rest of my house. It also is my creative outlet space…so it there is always 2 or 3 unfinished projects sitting around! I know I just need to rip the bandage but it’s tough😬
