See how rock's biggest "DJ" throws down with a pedalboard anyone could assemble.

I've said it before, he's probably been asked these questions and walked interviewers through his gear thousands of times, but he always seems happy and willing to share his secrets in a modest and genuine manner, like it's the first time he's ever been interviewed.

Tom: so yeah I’d sorta use this for something like this -
Interviewer: 👁👄👁

The look on the interviewers face is priceless... and exactly how I feel as I'm watching this.

I like how Tom actually shows how he uses his gear and what it does. Alot of musicians like to keep their secrets.

I like to think that when Tom started the "Like A Stone" solo he just thought "Damn this sounds nice let me just finish play the whole thing"

I love how he's had the same rig, particularly his amp, for decades and expresses creativity through his playing rather than buying new toys. True inspiration.

From 3:22 to 3:28, the interview transformed from a regular adult guy interviewing a star to a 15 years old kid in front of one of his musical heros playing his favorite tunes!

I like how the interviewer surprised Morello with the question regarding the intro to ‘Year of tha Boomerang”. That’s a deep cut.

I love how Tom Morello has one of the most unique guitar sounds of all time and its all done through one of the simplest rigs I've ever seen.

Toggle switch manufacturer: I wonder how to test the reliability of our switches.
Tom Morello: Hold my ice water.

Hello Tom,

Crappy pedal developer here (aka XP-300 DSP Engineer). Sorry that you feel that we ripped you off. It wasn't intentional. During the brainstorming sessions, we discussed all kinds of ideas. What made it into the pedal were synth swells, sample hold, Time Warp, reverse delay, apreggiators, pixelators, ring modulators, resonators and the infamous Auto Whammy. I was the main developer or at least had a hand in everything but the resonators. I wasn't familiar enough with your catalog at the time to know it was similar some stuff you did (I now own everything you've done with RATM). Our Product Manager was more of a Jimmy Page / Steve Howe kind of guy so he might not have known either.

If it makes you feel better, you probably made more money off of the Whammy than Digitech did.

Any of us who are in a creative fields are all too familiar with criticism and I've certainly received my share in various forms throughout the years. It just stings a little more when it comes from someone who you respect and whose music you love.

Sincerely,
Jim

Tom Morello’s main strength is not his rigs or even his hands, but it’s his head, that guy is so creative that he managed to create a lot of unique signature sounds just from this simple rig.

the only guitarist that genuinely wants everyone to know what he’s playing and how’s he getting the sound, god bless tom morello

The wah part in bulls on parade is what got me to start playing guitar. I heard that on the radio and instantly had to know what that was and how to do it. It literally changed my life. Thanks Tom!!
