I did the show in 1967, as an RAF Corporal, after being chopped from OASC Biggin Hill on the first day ( of 3). Instead of going back to my base in Valley, I decided to finish the time by hitching to Paris. When I eventually went into work on the following Monday, my Sqdn Ldr asked how I'd got on at OASC and I explained. He laughed and said I had made a fine decision. Most enjoyable with my fractured Franglais.

Nice video. The Le Bourget show is a little different because it is primarily a trade fair. That probably explains why the public show experience come second in the list of priorities.
Bienvenue en France!

Hey Steph, thanks for covering the Air show for those of us at home.
Absolutely agree with you on the B1. I was at the same Avalon Air show at about the age of 16 and although the weather was typical of Melbourne, the full afterburner take off and low pass was by far the most extreme and breath taking experience, nothing has ever come close!

I’ll never forget that B1-B display at Avalon a few years back. Easily my most favourite displays at Avalon of all time. That heatwave that went through the crowd as it was fully lit taking off is something ill never forget!

The annual Royal International Air Tattoo, held in July at RAF Fairford, UK, used to be all about military aviation. Aircraft from around the world visited this air show, Jordan, Brazil, Malaysia, Ozzies, Kiwis, a lot of US and British stuff. Yet, more and more it is becoming a show where trade is important. (And it helps that military aviation is nowhere as big as it was in the 1990s, so it may be that we have a RIAT because of the additional trade stuff…)

I remember going to the Paris Airshow the year that the Airbus A380 was introduced.
As it taxied out it was as though some famous celebrities had arrived - the crowd went wild.
Then everyone left the show straight afterwards and the train back to Paris was packed.

As a kid we used to always attend the airshow at CFB Trenton, Ontario Canada. At the time, the largest airshow in Canada. And we also suffered from the same issue, the air display viewing was done from the same area as the static displays. Would be nice to see the ground portion of the flight displays.

I went to the 2019 airshow and it the setup was also like that.
Also back in 2019 the 380 and 350 weren’t in the static area, they were parked quite the distance from the viewing area which was disappointing.
Did you get to see the Concorde and the prototype in the hangars?

I basically grew up at the Paris airshow. And the chalet have always been there as well as the very business/defense focus.
But the chalet were taking a lot less space in the 90's and it was possible to get really close the grass next to the runway. I saw many amazing very low level (i.e. a few meters of the ground) demos from Harrier jets at that air show.
And the Space museum is always the best place to cool down because a) air con b) rockets!

Go to a US airshow, particularly one outside one of the big cities. They are certainly still marketed for the people with fantastic access to the flight line and all about the aerial displays.

That's a decent museum there. They also have a pair of Concordes that you can walk through. It appears that they acquired one of the A380 prototypes some years ago but I can't see any info about being able to go inside it.

12 years ago there was a seperate area to watch the display.
Maybe it has changed since covid, or its different from the industry days (mon-fri) to the public days (the weekend)
