The irony of corporations having representation without taxation in the US Senate.

"No taxation without representation" is becoming a common theme. Everyone pays taxes, but they're certainly not being represented unless can pay for the privilege.

Ladies and gentlemen, for every $1 million Americans “give” Puerto Rico, we have paid $5million in tariffs and other taxes via the Jones Act and other impositions. Help in a disaster? The American government didn’t do smack during María but neglect the help that’s rightfully ours (after the high amount of taxes we pay). We have one of the highest rates of professionals (doctors, engineers, teachers), higher than states like Mississippi or Alabama. Don’t think yourself superior and act like we can’t do our thing successfully. Go into the south and see how your own states also suffer.

I'll support whatever Puerto Rico wants to do, statehood or independence, but if they want to get some payback against the Republicans who made sure they were belittled during the last storm, they should join the USA as an official state and get to stand face to face against the radical GOP.

Puerto Ricans deserve to decide their own future.

The way the USA is going it's no wonder Puerto Rico would want to free itself.

Yasmin, thank you for covering the territories! Puerto Rico's vote will have repercussions here (Guam) as well.

As an American with an ancestor who fought by the side of George Washington, I offer Puerto Rico and it's beautiful, hardworking, and brave people complete and equal freedom to become the 51st State of the United States of America. Won't you other free Americans join me at this critical time for Democracy world wide and say, "PUERTO RICO Statehood!!!"

The problem is capitalism. The problem can most often always be traced back to capitalism.

Don't forget that even though we had many many Hawaiian Territory citizens sign petitions against statehood, we still became a state.

It deserves independence. The US has been terrible to it

I moved to Puerto Rico in 2011, when I got here I was all in for Statehood. Now after living here and seeing the USA do with us what they want, take our youth and not give us a voice I'm not sure statehood is the best choice. What I do know is that we need things to change and our current status does not allow us to do that.

I've always viewed Puerto Rico as a real state, shame they want to leave, we never treated them fairly.

I will never stop having a laugh every time I think of the Mobster Lobster apologising for Melanoma not being able to be present, while she was standing right beside him. It was when they visited after a natural disaster....If looks could kill, he would have been dead...🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

The US needs to piss or get off the pot. They need to allow the PR to choose its destiny.

I hope Puerto Rico becomes INDEPENDENT sovereign country instead of being a U.S territory which don’t have the right to vote for even America’s election.
