We had an amazing time visiting my mum in Malaga, Spain. We enjoyed the sun and the wonderful weather that we had so little of this year in England. We love Malaga; it's one of our favourite cities. This prompted us to wonder if maybe we should retire in Spain. Is the grass greener? Let's discuss.

My siblings moved from Washington State to Arizona, but like you, we don’t like the extreme heat. Besides, we love the green! You should just rent a home in Spain. Nisha I’m English and a Londoner too so u.k is in my blood and for all its faults it’s home.
I like the seasons…even the winter…it’s all part of what makes this country so appealing.
The n.h.s for all that’s wrong is still amazing in a crisis….the wheels kick in quickly if there’s something really wrong. Yes I can see the appeal of Spain….it’s got a lovely culture, but this is my home and I couldn’t imagine leaving here altogether. I know people who have returned to the u.k from Spain because of certain uncertainties so you must weigh it all up. You’re in a beautiful part of the country in Windsor so think long and hard before you make that final decision. Your family looked beautiful and your mum looks amazing. Thank you for taking us with you x 🌸

I retired at age 53 and am now in my early 60s. Many people resisted me because they couldn't understand the idea of not working if you don't have to. I considered my life to be in phases. I worked very hard to achieve what I have now, but in my last years, I owe it to myself to "stop and smell the roses." After I retired, I left the nation and now reside in Latin America. I was able to enjoy my new surroundings and escape from all the bad things that were going on in America. I haven't yet encountered anyone who laments their retirement.

Nisha, I am few years older than your mother, living in Canada much longer than I was living in Poland. My daughter moved to Europe and I was considering moving to Poland, even though I speak the language I had hard time to adapt to life in Poland. My even older friend summarised it in “ starych drzew się nie przesadza and wszędzie dobrze gdzie nas nie ma “. Don’t worry, your mom will be fine, we are strong and independent women . My advice, enjoy today, make plans but live for today and don’t put off the things you want to do until later , on that note, I am going to travel by myself with group of strangers through Central America to celebrate my 75 birthday .

No, you never get use to the heat.Born and raised in Texas. We turn our air on in April and run it until Oct. Our temperatures in the hottest months you are in the house. It never cools down. It really confines us since we have to stay inside. ❤🎉❤

Hi Nisha, we moved from Northern Italy (because of work) to Malta and I can tell you - in my case I never got used to the heat..it has been 10 years now. I used to complain about rain and cold, but now actually we fly often to Scotland 😂because we really enjoy colder climate…ideal would be to live half and half ..this is what I m thinking for us…❤❤

Having been widowed so suddenly (overnight) it was the hardest thing to cope with and I can’t imagine how that would have felt had we moved away anywhere. Despite everything going on in the country right now the UK is my home. If I still had my husband by my side it would have been lovely to go on extended holidays in retirement, more so in winter, but home will always be home.

You and I are so much alike in the sense that we think Miles ahead. People are always laughing at me here in the US saying that I should live from day to day. But I'm 61 years old and in reasonably good health and share much of the same interests as you do. Our lives parallel somewhat, and I cannot imagine making a move like that without thinking of all the consequences. I totally get that.

I’m in the south in America and it is still hot. It’s going to 88° today. I would love to move to a colder climate. I think I would love UK weather.

Hi Nisha... Thank you so much for sharing your wonderful trip with us.. You all looked happy and gorgeous. The wigs looked wonderful on your mom. There are no easy solutions when it comes to big decisions like retirement, moving, etc. What might help - which I think you do that anyway - is make a VERY detailed Pros & Cons list for staying in the U.S. vs. moving to Spain. List the things that are crucial musts to you and the things that are "negotiable." Have a wonderful week. Hugs from NYC.
