The wolf follower skin is unlocked by sacrificing Ratau to the mysterious man. The next time you finish a crusade, the one who waits will literally praise you because he claims the reason Ratau stood down as his vessel was because he made a bargain resulting in a follower being sacrificed.

After I got the wolf follower form, I made my next follower a wolf and named them MURDER! to forever remind me of what I had to do in order to get them. The game also really rubs it in with TOWW congratulating you and then a note outside Ratau's shack addressed to you, saying he knows you won't make the same mistakes he did.
Damn, I really *am* a wolf in sheep's clothing.

Probably already corrected but Snails only spawn in Anura, Darkwood doesn't have any Snails spawn.

You forgot one! The squirrel is the easiest hidden one to unlock early game :) just murder every squirrel on screen and bam new follower form! They’re my favorite lmao
