I love learning about all the different oak trees! Years after I first heard him say it, I still have Doug Tallamy's words ringing in my ears that the #1 best thing you can do to improve biodiversity in your yard is to plant an oak.

I have a swamp white oak that I bought from all places, Meijer. It's doing fairly well so far. It did better through this icy weather we've had than my pin oak did. The swamp white dropped all its leaves while the pin oak didn't, which gave lots of area for the ice to cling to. I look forward to watching my oaks grow up.

I recently came across a small population of swamp chestnut oaks growing along a creek, surrounded by honeysuckle and winter creeper. This gave me confidence that I correctly identified them. Videos like this are incredibly helpful!

I'm in Coastal NC, and I planted two of these in my backyard after an arborist recommended it for my swampy backyard

For me Swamp White, Swamp Chestnut, Chinkapin, and Chestnut oaks are the hardest for me to tell apart. After this video I think I might be finally able to tell Swamp White apart from them. Thank you!
