Just bought Mr. Kampfner’s latest book, “Why the Germans Do it Better” and discovered he had done this episode of Easy German with Cari (and Janusz)! I really respect the work these folks are doing. I hope to meet them in Berlin someday.

No one mentioned Engineering, I think they were being bashful. So I will say it.
German Engineering is the best in the World.

The thing I admire about Germany compared to the rest of the world is not only have you kept your manufacturing strong but also kept it spread through the country.
So all towns and villages seem to have something to attract people

As an Italian, I can say that Germans are the best when it comes to public facilities, infrastructure, punctuality and public order.. they also make the best beer you can find..
They need to improve fashion and social attitude perhaps
(Not all of them are "cold" though)
I would love to live in München one day!

also

-making ridiculous things verboten
-making bureaucracy extremely painful
-rules, rules, rules
-watching citizens like big brother
-robbing citizens via taxes (very good at)

I've been living in Oldenburg for some months now, and I appreciate German punctuality, their straightforwardness and their kindness. I feel safe and welcomed here! Also I could totally tell the woman was from Latin America when she mentioned punctuality. That's a cute accent which I also probably have.

I am Vietnamese, I am very addicted to Germany and I watched a lot about this country. In my opinion, German is good at creating a lot of famous brands which are well-known all over the world (Addidas, Nivea, BMW, ...). I will try to find a chance to study abroad in Germany soon to experience the actual life in this lovely country!

Definitely engineering and chemistry. Many many pharmaceuticals come from Germany. Then of course beer and bread

After having lived for 4 years in the US I learned to appreciate some German traits. What comes to mind is efficiency, being detail oriented, having a long attention span, being direct and mostly honest, and - very surprising for me - compared to the US the relation to your superior is much more on an equal footing (okay not everywhere), despite calling your boss by their firstname in the US, work life balance, time for your family
Politically, trying to find a balance between economic growth, workers rights, social security and sustainability (trying is the word here).

On a material level, certainly bread (in all variations), beer, engineering of course, Sahnetorte (cream cake), Wurst (sausages as well as cold cuts); plumbing, online-banking, ...

Examples of what we still have to learn: seeing the good things (we are perfect in looking for "das Haar in der Suppe", finding fault in everything); sometimes letting go of safety in favor of taking risks

Leica! My dad bought a Leica M5 over 30 years ago and he passed it down to me, i use it sometimes to do photography as a hobby.

I just finished the German course on duolingo a few days ago and I was so happy to understand around 75-80% of the words! The only thing is, they speak sooo quickly..
