I love how we see Gollum realise, that Jackson and Serkis made sure to tell the audience that Gollum isn't dumb. He works stuff out. He thinks. He knows. He's simply clouded by addiction.

There was a positive of having Gollum alive and travelling with Frodo & Sam. He was a constant reminder to Frodo of what would happen if he allowed the ring to take him, and thus made them all the more determine to destroy it.

Martin Freeman just knocks this performance out, you can see his debate as he to choose to either kill Gollum or just run away. A person quoted some lines from the book and Martin brings it out to the fullest. He knows that Gollum is wretched horrible little thing, but he also see's an innocence. He see's the Gollum has been stuck in this mountain for who knows how long, alone, in the dark, eating cold, raw fish, with his only companion being himself. That is what Bibo pities that this thing has no one, that it may never have anyone apart from his existence. So with a heavy sigh he makes his choice a choice he will never be assured if it was the right one or not.

Love 1:32 And how impressive the cgi is, along with Serkis’s verbal performance. You can see Gollum very subtlety shake and quiver, because he’s in sheer disbelief that Bilbo stole the ring. Another testament to Serkis’s incredible acting.

I don’t know how I never noticed this but when Smeagol is in control his pupils are wide and innocent, but when Gollum is in control his pupils turn small and menacing.

I love how Bilbo pitying Gollum is what defeated Sauron. Even if Gollum betrayed him and Sam. If he was never there when Frodo was at mount doom and if he never bit off his finger Sauron would have won
