I have been trying to get a grasp of this for god knows how long. watched loads of other videos to no avail. You deserve a medal for finally driving the understanding of this into my thick head.

You can also take the derivative of the numerator (plug in limit x), take the derivstive of the denominator (and plug in limit x), and you get the same answer.

when something is infinitely approaching 0, it is still a number

i feel like limits tell us the infinite immediate number that the function CANNOT reach

so what i think is that since infinity is still a number not equal to 0 but with 0s as what it is approaching, that 1 infinitely close number can be twice as big as the other

therefore when you divide those two numbers, you get a half

Man i have to say that i think the part where you reveal that the 0/0 is really to be viewed as the ratio of speed of approach of the numerator to denominator at a specific value of x (if i didn’t just butcher that) might be the first time I’ve understood the logic behind the derivative. If this sounds right—thank you! If not, i’m still ignorant 🤣

I'm sorry, didn't you miss the 4x in the example? If not, where is it, how we resolved it?
