Mk7 GTI Powerflex Dogbone Engine Mount Insert - Too Stiff or Just Right?

Ever since I got the GTI, I noticed the terrible wheel hop on hard acceleration where the entire front half of the car felt like a sponge. The 500 treadwear tires didn't help, but if we want grip and convert that power to ground we need to stiffen up the front mount.

I ordered the 'Street' durometer insert from Powerflex, as recommended. It's a pretty straightforward install and the bushing sits TIGHT inside the engine mount. This equates to a roughly 25% increase in NVH (noise, vibration, harshness) in the inside of the car. BUT, the wheel hop is all but gone leaving a stiffer and much more satisfying feeling that comes when you put your foot down.

The noise and vibration is really nonexistent when moving, reverse gear is the most noticeable and at stop lights/signs it's really not bad at all. My GTI is the main car for baby transporting, and testing with a newborn she doesn't seem to mind at all.

Hi Jackson - a dogbone was one of the possibilities I considered for my 2018 VAG Skoda Superb (like an Audi A6 made in Czech Republic but only 60% of the cost) but at the end of the day I really enjoy having the 6-speed DSG and 2-liter 220 PS motor be imperceptible and silent. Makes long journeys not tiring at all. I have suspension in sport mode but usually engine in Eco mode just because it's so relaxing.
One thing I did change was to insert a gas pedal remapper - the DTE PedalBox. The standard gas pedal was very lame with lots of initial dead space but after remapping (I use "Normal" mode - it became very nicely responsive. I have never tried sport mode with sport engine setting - I imagine it would be like Formula 1! :-)
Other things I'm still considering - an aftermarket heat shield for the turbo - so that the engine bay stays cooler and the hoses and cabling aren't subjected to such large temperature changes.

Nice video! All the best, Rob in Switzerland.

Thanks for the video man, was hesitant to install one of these on my mk7 due to vibration but so far I love it. Love the GTI videos keep them up 👍

I just recently upgraded to Firestone Indy 500 tires on my mk7 GTI. They are amazing in terms of traction at a fraction of the cost of other performance tires

I have exactly the same 1 which I am about to put in my Audi TT mk3 with the same engine as the GTI. Glad to here it makes such a difference and stops the wheel hop as it's so annoying trying to put the foot down

Hey bro, wanted to drop by and say thanks for the videos, getting some good ideas to tastefully mod the wife's GTI without her getting mad. As for your tire situation, we just switched to General GMax RS. They're basically Continentals for half the cost. Fun little tire to drive around town on, takes the turns harder, more confident under braking, but it's nothing crazy like an MPSS or a Potenza or anything. Just a subtle little sporty summer tire that compliments the car.

Keep up the good content dude!

Have a green one installed about 1 year ago and still feels exactly the same (which I like). Tires, put some wider rims than those stock 71/2" wide.

Great vid, good looking gti! Was curious if the mount broke in and got a little better with the vibration? looking to do this soon, oh and I just upgraded to Continental DWS 06 235-40-18 on my stock 2018 GTI SE rims when a size up on the thickness love these tires amazing!!

I'm looking to do an Insert now also. How has it held up? Did it soften up? Or are the vibrations in Cabin, in park and reverse the same?

I know this is basic but could you show how you got the GTI on all 4 stands? When I do it I jack from the rear pinchwelds to put a stand under the front welds. Its sketchy. Do you use the subframe as a lift point?

Can I use red version (softest) to eliminate vibrations? It shows suitable for diesel models, can I use it on my Golf R? Will it fit? Thanks.

I've read good things about the Advan Apex. its the tire i ordered for mine. its a 280 tw summer tire basically and it was very reasonably priced.

Manufacturer instructions say to remove the inner portion of the lower puck, not stuff the Powerflex hybrid replacement into the existing one.

What about 034 Motorsports's claim that you need the upper bracket too to prevent damage. Is that only for people who do burnouts?

How hard would that be to ever get back out if needed?

Thanks for the video, this could solve the dsg rattle at low speed when D or Reverse?

I've seen on another channel that the bolt is a one-time torque bolt, and has to be replaced upon removal. Assuming you replaced the bolt, what did you torque it to?

Se le quitó la vibración estando parado?
