Basically every friend, relative, or coworker that l know who rides motorcycles has ended up in the hospital at some point after a crash.

This is why they make them wear helmets…

Thank you for sharing this. Little known fact, the flat bed truck that killed Duane was loaded up with wooden crates of peaches. The rapid stop of the truck and crash with the motorcycle resulted in peach crates falling off the truck and getting smashed in the road witnesses at the site reported the smell of peaches in the sunshine on the hot pavement, 6 months later the ABB album "Eat a Peach" was published and dedicted to Duane Allman. On it were 3 of the last songs Duane he would ever record. I remember getting high and listening to the brand new album with my friends and crying like a bunch of lost souls, it was like our own private memorial service for one of our heros. Best guitar player of his time, IMO

Oakley’s walk home is called walk of death! It’s when your brains is hurt but you don’t feel the symptoms yet! RIP guy!

What you have just described here in under a minute is infact an incalculable loss to all men who have an ear for real music. These two men had fingers that were alive with personalities of their own. Till today l still imagine what beautiful music we would have been blest with if Duane Allman and Barry Oakley had been with us longer. This post makes me feel like l have been tied to the whupping post.

Such a shame. Duane is one of the reasons I started playing guitar. Live at the Philmore East is widely considered one of the best live albums ever. It is truly magical.

And that's where we get the term "rollin' Allman style" when you ride a motorcycle without a helmet.

Duane Allman was an incredible guitarist and Barry Oakley was a great bass player. Sad they passed far too young 😢

So sad . This broke my heart when all this happened. I thought sure that would put The ABB out of service . Thankfully they continued making great music for many years ! RIP BROTHERS !

One of the worst tragedies in rock and roll history. Live at Fillmore East is, imo, the greatest live album of all time.

The band and musical direction was forever altered therafter. Listening to Duane on Mountain Jam at that show did & still does make my soul take flight. So many years & so many shows, the impromptu jams in between, miss those. RIP gentlemen. 💕

That is one of my favorite album covers. I always make sure it is the cover facing out as it brings me such joy to see their laughter & camaraderie.
