Keeping Spain Out of WW2: Franco's Egocentric Strategy

Francisco Franco kept Spain out of World War II by first declaring strict neutrality and later shifting to non-belligerence, cautiously supporting the Axis without committing to the conflict. He engaged in diplomatic negotiations with Hitler, but set terms that were unlikely to be accepted, and strategically deployed armies to deter Axis occupation.
