The answer to the question is presented at the beginning. The cause of WWII was the Treaty of Versailles. WWI was the result of Britain and Germany not being able to manage the arrival of Germany as a power to rival Britain and the failure of two cousins, three if you count the Russian Czar to avoid the conflict. Germany lost the war and the UK and US unwisely went along with the French plan to punish and humiliate Germany with terms of the Treaty. This led to economic ruin and then the rise of Hitler.

Two words: Versailles treaty. After WW1, which Germany didn’t start, the treaty of Versailles decimated Germany. Took away lands. French occupying forces. Reparations that were crippling. Wilson, England and France caused WW2. Period

The treaty of Versailles forbid Germany to ally with Austria, but when Hitler entered his native country, he and his army were met by cheering people, men, women and children, throwing flowers in front of the entourage. They also held a referendum, close to 100% accepted the "Anschluss". The point was simple, to unite all German speaking people in Europe
