In my personal war against products being produced that implement features preventing them from doing what they're supposed to do, I present you with the quickest, easiest way to prevent your generator from stupidly shutting down because it smells its own exhaust fumes.

I saw another video showing the sensor, the first thing i wondered is, would duct tape over slots work….. The very next video was this one. Thank you for confirming the logical does work. Best video on youtube for eliminating a bad idea.

That is the most annoying damn thing about this generator. Any time the slightest breeze blows wrong the damn thing shuts down lol. Thank you for posting this! Works like a charm!

Those saying it doesn't work, besure you cover the entire sensor and press tge tape down tight. Any little wrinkle will let exhaust in and trip the sensor. I ended up using aluminum tape which gave a much better seal, it has to be airtight!

Hi Joe, I've gotta disagree with you about the importance of the CO sensor. My brand new generator was purchased at Harbor Freight (by someone else) and returned for cutting out. They then discounted it to $600 but no one bought it so they tossed it in their dumpster. I retrieved it, taped the sensor as you demonstrated and now I am ready for the next hurricane season. Gotta love those gene pool polluters .

Not only did this video crack me up, but very edifying as well. Just got a predator the other day for my food truck. That’s going to be the first thing I do. The Firman that just recently blew up on me was always cutting off because of the dumbass sensor. Thanks, dude.

Hi Joe! I watched so many vids with people cutting wires and taking their gen apart. Thank God you confirmed what I wanted to do! Fart detector … I laughed hard on that one! Thanks bud!

Did this with mine and thought it worked but still ended up cutting off at 10 minutes. I'm trying it a few more times to confirm before i do the wire bypass method

Will tape work on the 1800 watt predator ? Thanks 🇺🇸

Will it still work if you only have a .357?

Ran into this problem on a recent hunting trip. Was worried it wouldn't work for me because I didn't have the correct tools from the video with me. Just so you know, .41 magnum works as well. Can't say or not for a .357 it might not do the job.

How do I defeat the low alarm oil sensor?

The government knows best. Sensors for everything!

This sounds like an excellent fix; simple is best and this can't get much simpler. Unfortunately it may only be a temporary fix. The gen descriptions & manuals show that these CO sensors are like the one's used in your home; they only last a few (5?) years after they are manufactured. When this sensor fails in your generator, I suspect it will close (or open) a secondary circuit so that the gen won't start or will quickly stop. You will either have to get a new sensor (and tape it up) or do some rewiring to bypass it altogether. Murphy's law says the sensor will reach end of life when you really need the gen.

I don't have a .44, would a .243 rifle barrel work ok?

My generators are always outside in their own enclosure, and never near the house. Windy days are okay, but when the winds are still, CO2 builds up in the enclosure enough so that after 1 hour the generator shuts down. I am currently experiencing an winter storm power outage. My electricity from my power supplier has been down for 5 days now. I have been running outside every hour or so to restart the generator. I need this sensor disabled. Thank you. this was very irritating. Duct tape does wonders.
