How I Hid My Tourette's From Everyone I Knew

Hi everyone! In this video I will tell the story of how I hid my Tourette's from everyone I knew. Just a disclaimer - I DO NOT RECOMMEND DOING WHAT I DID. It definitely hurt a lot more in the long run, and I would always recommend being yourself over hiding away. This story about my Tourette Syndrome is definitely not something I'm proud of, but now, as a girl with Tourettes I am wanting to spread the word and raise awareness about my disorder. It's important to note that my tics - motor tics and vocal tics - have gotten a lot better as I've gotten older, but I still felt the need to hide my Tourette's from everyone I knew. And I regret it. Hiding Tourettes was difficult and awful and I don't recommend it. The truth about Tourettes is that it's something that shouldn't be hidden - and we should work together to break the stigma. I would love it if you'd leave a comment letting me know what other TS themed videos you want to see on my channel!! Thanks for watching!! (: As always, the goal of my channel is to provide education about and spread awareness to what it's like living with Tourette syndrome. Thank you and have a great day!

I have tics and I’m going to a new school next year. I’ve been worrying a lot about what people will think of me because of them. This video was really helpful and comforting. Thank you

So many people have things they are struggling with that they feel that have to hide. I stopped hiding it when i accepted my illness and it’s severity and then very freeingly just stopped hiding it.
It’s freeing to not hide who you really are, the good and the bad and just be yourself.
You learned that fairly young, I think that is a gift. Not telling you how to feel, kid lol but it’s sad some people never learn to not hide.

At school I'd put my head down to look like I was sleeping to do facial tics.
I'd put my hands in my pockets.. squeeze my hands
I'd walk in front or behind people and do it.
Or I'd look out the window of the bus and do it...

I kind of hide it from everyone.. I forgot that I have tics sometimes because my job is physically demanding. I've been working in restaurants for 6 years and recently I switched to catering and I am working less and now they've made their return.. very odd

I'm so sorry you felt you had to do this :-(. However, I admire how strong you are now, go your own way and tic through the day ;-).

I don’t have Tourettes nor tics, but I can relate to the feeling of being bullied/excluded, forgetting oneself to desperately trying to fit in and wishing to be “normal”.
(I’m on the Autism Spectrum and I also have ADD.)
As an adult, I know it wasn’t needed to try to fit in, because that’s not how the world works when you’re an adult.

SAME I wish I was more honest because hiding ticks is so so tiring! I’m sure I would have been accepted cause it was only mild.
