The Ram 1500 had some surprises up its sleeve, but none more surprising than this new take on the battery electric truck. The first range-extending pickup truck has launched offering close to 700 miles of range! What do you think of this take?

Just like the Edison Motor Semi truck they have been building. Diesel motor used as a generator to keep batteries charged. The point is the diesel motor can be small & always runs at peak RPM. Allowing for maximum efficiency and longevity.

Chevy did this many years ago with the Volt, and they dropped the ball by not investing in the technology and putting it into a truck or SUV.
I'm glad Dodge adopted the idea, and I hope it's a big success.

We still need long-term options that don't use fossil fuels, but this is a great stopgap for towing. It'll also serve as a portable generator making it an excellent work truck

Engine should have been a 4 cylinder catipillar diesel engine that is under 75 hp there for no def fluid and high torque at low rpm gives the manufacturer a gear box that increases generator speed

Now just imagine if you put a 25 or so gallon transfer tank in the bed. You could effectively drive roughly 1200 miles without having to stop. And since it is ev you aren't wasting fuel idling or anything.

The new 1500 Ramcharger is a game changer! Now, we're going to see companies being sensible about electrified vehicles, instead of trying to force EV's on us. EV's are good for city driving, but if you like to, or need to drive long distances (especially if you're hauling, or towing anything), then EV's suck (especially if you happen to live in an area where you experience very hot or very cold seasons (both extremes kill battery performance, as well as the life of a battery).

So 2 Motors, 2 Differentials, 1 Battery Pack, 1 Engine, Charging Systems, Fuel systems, exhaust systems ... so manybthings to go wrong 😕

I think they should have chosen the 2.8 cummins 4 cylinder instead of the 3.6 pentastar in my opinion.

Why would they use such a POS Poorly Designed Pentastar Motor?? when a reliable 4 Banger would probably do.
