I watched this last night on an LG C4 OLED, sitting very close. I didn't see any obvious signs of AI upscaling and the movie looked incredible.

00:36 Yeah, let's ignore the weird AI fingerprints on the side of the thumb and zoom in on the fingers to distract the audience, all while you praise AI upscaling and tell us we don't need better transfers anymore.

Why do you do this?

I own a lot of movies. Upgrading from DVD to Blu Ray was an obvious choice at the time because Blu Ray looks so much better than DVD and it was often cheap to buy a Blu Ray for $5 - $10. 4ks are pretty expensive right now. I can’t justify spending $25 - $30+ to upgrade every single Blu Ray that already looks pretty good to something that looks a little better. Blu Ray is generally good enough that it doesn’t take away from my enjoyment of the movie. Especially when upscaled. When I can find 4ks for around $10 to upgrade an old Blu Ray of a movie I love I’ll pick it up but the pricing is starting to become prohibitive.

This has the mono soundtrack. That makes it a clear upgrade for terminator fans

No, absolutely not. Movies aren't video games. This is a horrible trend.

I don't care about AI I just want the picture quality to be good

it looks amazing, especially if you are watching on a projector....anyone who says different is out of their minds and their eyes don't work

Lots of sharpening going on here, similar to edge enhancement. No real added detail, just the illusion of more detail through sharpening. The minimal use of WCG and HDR also a missed opportunity.

Where's the grain? That's the real difference between ai upscaling and a new 4k scan. Eventually and even now I don't like this ai upscaling, and if this IS the future, I don't like it because the grain was there before and it's been removed and that is absent detail. I'm a grain lover and a layer of grain is native 4k to me

This film does look amazing. I held the previous re-mastered blu-ray in very high regard and watched it regular. The picture on this new 4K is superior and as is the colour pallette. The sound is awesome, especially the mono track, although I have yet to watch the full film using the atmos track. I opted for the mono first because of the amount of comments detailed in the past about this not being included. I'm now though a little disaapointed at the potential that this was not a true 4K transfer, will we missing some resolution here? I thought the previous blu-ray was from a 4K master and that this UHD was derived from that? Regardless of my latter comments/questions, this is the best I have ever seen this film, and I absolutely love it!! He saved the best film until last and he has nailed it. Now I hope he can go and re-visit T2. If T2 gets new treatment like this then we are in for a serious treat.

thanks for the video, for me Titanic and this transfer of The Terminator are the best transfer for Cameron releases on 4k

I have a great system and it totally makes my old DVD look like a blu-ray. But I am so so excited to get this 4K. And the fact that they finally included the original and superior mono track is enough to put this over the Blu-ray

I was excited for the positive reactions and ordered the steelbook but I watched a comparison on my 70" tv and noticed the AI clearly so I just cancelled my order. I will not support theese cheap and lazy poorly remastered cash grabs. I want all the future remasters of old or new movies to be made from new scans done in 4K (or 8K) and with no use of DNR or generative AI, so I hope this James Cameron practice won't become the new norm or I'll stop collecting physical media and go directly to piracy of 35 mm fan-transfers.

A good 4k transfer doesn’t need grain wiped away. Grain is not an error, nor is it indicative of something not being pristine. I like what I’m seeing, but more grain would have been nice. This is a film, shot on actual film, not digital, and younger reviewers excusing that are the reason these companies keep just a.i upscaling everything

The Terminator is Native 4K DI with some AI applied. Plus the HDR pass. The film looks incredible.

I just got through watching the BD - I think the 2nd release, which I did not know that I had, as I always had the first release. It looked good enough for me to not pay $25 for a 4K. I also noticed when Sarah Conner was making a dictation to her son, she did it on cassette in 1984 for her son in 2029. Of course they would not have known that finding cassettes decks would be harder than finding a million dollars in diamonds on the street, in 2029!

Incredible release, I've a ton of 70s and 80s 4ks, and this is possibly top o the pile

The question is (I haven't seen this yet) does it retain its filmic quality? Because that absolutely matters. I watched ALIENS and the lack of filmic quality makes me sick. Clean but shit.
