Good 4ks are great, but good Blu-rays still look awesome! What is a standout Blu-ray you own?

Honestly, these comparisons are always dependent on the quality of your display. I watched this last week, and there is a noticeable difference between the 4K release, especially with the HDR grade, shadow detail levels, and overall color balance. MGM did a great job with this. This is through my 77" C2 LG.

I think the conversation regarding 4K and blu ray doesn’t give enough lip service to the audio upgrades. With a proper setup, Atmos audio tracks can be absolute game changers. Most of the time when I upgrade to 4K, the presence of a new Atmos track will be the driving factor for the purchase.

the fact that cameron has provided to new audio tracks, two experiences are possible with this disc

Early blu-rays had a mono soundtrack, apparently matching the original film. Cameron apparently asked for a 5.1 version/remaster which was presumably made available on more recent blu-rays. I'm looking forward to getting the 4K so I'll have it in surround sound instead of just mono (choice of 5.1 and Dolby Atmos) and also for the Dolby Vision (HDR) upgrade. PS. I originally thought HDR was dark and had a red cast to it because the older Samsung TV I had couldn't display it properly. Now that I've gotten a newer LG set, HDR adds a LOT.

It's a beautiful 4k image, keeps the film grain. It's full screen with no bars.

I am more interested in Dolby Atmos. Dolby Atmos is awesome with the right setup.
Same goes for DTS:X and Auro 3D.

Also I don’t think the 4ks from James Cameron are bad. T2 is rough but it’s not Cameron’s fault since he didint do the restoration. Studio canal used the wrong print. I’m hoping for a redo.

I have the Terminator Anthology Blu Ray set. The one that has the first three movies. I think they look great on my 4K TV. But I still may pick up the 4K later on, just because I do love The Terminator.
And I agree that pausing to pick apart the image is a bit much. Especially because, like you said, we don't all have the same set up. I have a nice Sony player, but a super affordable Onn. 75" TV.
And I've never been disappointed by the image quality. Because it all still looks better than my old 1080p. lol

I’m a pixel peeper (work in video production) so TV calibration is important to me. I want to watch movies as close to what the director envisioned when it was released. Your point is not lost about everyone’s TV being different and being set up differently. When I watch reviews of these movies I haven’t really thought about that, to be honest. I just assume that everybody has their TV either calibrated to the best movie mode within the TV or professionally calibrated. Kind of dumb on my part now that I think about. I also don’t get crazy when people want to watch their TVs set to the mode they like best even if I think it it’s not calibrated correctly. If you enjoy it, you enjoy it and in the end the movie is the important part not the TV.

The Blu-ray doesnt come with the original mono track so... I want the 4K

The mono on the 4K is extremely loud too, I had to turn my tv down. Haven't seen anything like that in a while, original 80's analogue is no joke.

I own both versions, both are great looking on my 85 inches display. They are the best there can be in their given formats.

I think the 4k looks night and days better than the blu. I’m a little bias though cause it’s one of my favorite movies of all time.

Very good points and how we watch TV you wanna watch the movie or do you wanna analyze it? Amazing some people.

The Apartment does have a 4k from Kino, looks great! don't know if its the same transfer or not

4K was never a need to enjoy movies. You really need a pretty large TV to appreciate it as well. Unless the remastering of films alone is something you really want.

obviously if we compare 4k vs blu on a 4k tv, we will see an inprovement cause blu content is being but i dont know if there is a visible inprovemetn if we compare a blu on a fullhd tv vs 4k on 4k tv

I refuse to support 4K Blu-ray anymore. This is the reason. Most times it is a minor upgrade. JC didn't even take the time to do a new scan for a movie people would surely have bought. And then they want $30 for it? Whatever I have already bought this movie three or four times, I'm not buying it again.
