Volvo V40 review (2012 to 2016) | What Car?

I've got a new V40 D2 R-Design Lux in Rebel Blue. It's a classy, premium product and feels more than capable of showing Audi/VW or Merc a thing or tow when it comes to interior design, comfort and aesthetics. It also doesn't shout 'tosser' like the Audi badge. I had a 63-reg B-Class Sport and the Volvo runs rings around that for satisfaction and comfort, as well as looks.

how is the console hard to work out. FFS, it works it's easy, same with any new car you have to learn how to use the items on board. quite literally not rocket science

Poor review, I just bought one, the rides not harsh and the infotainment system just needs a few days to get used to then its a breeze. I also sold an A3 stronic, now that was a harsh ride, and the DSG was problematic, the V40 is so well thought through! After my first 3 hour drive I got out feeling pretty fresh !

I did few tests on the car and all i can say is… It is a magnificent thing much better than any Golfs A3s  A class etc.
You are getting paid for doing reviews, but in reality you should go change you job! You are misleading people and what you have said is pure fantasy coming up from your arse!
the D2 engine is a class leading on fuel economy, it's not just decent! The car looks much more stylish than any German boring facelift nonsense and the entertainment system is a smart Swedish thing, which is not recommended to be used by brainless idiots. So you must have intellectual capacity to buy Volvo, for all the others there are enough German crap….ahhh...cars!

If my mother can use the Volvo infotainment on her XC60, it mustn't be that difficult, plus the layout and the mapping is gorgeous.

He didn´t mention the display switch (Elegance/Eco/Performance) wich change the focus and colour on the dashboard that fits the current style of driving for example if choose Performance the display turn red and the tachometer moves to the center as the main focus, in Eco it turns green and all the fluid meter etc that needs to be focused on get´s larger and clearer with an ecometer that measure how economic and ecological you driving for the moment.. Clever.

We have the XC60 and I don't see how the infotainment system is hard to use...

the entertainment system is really easy to use. Everything is there, the only thing u have to do is read the buttons...

the proportions are not right. i get the long nose is for pedestrian safety crash test but what about the short rear?

I drive these, Audi A3's, Golfs and Astras and I have to say I completely disagree with this review. The Volvo's ride is far more smooth than the Golf or A3 but with much less wallowing compared to the flabby Astra. The ICE system is far more intuitive and has proper buttons with a clear, large screen; the Golf's new system isn't bad, but is far worse as a distraction from the road as it's touchscreen system requires you stare at it to figure out how to do what you want. 2/10, biased review.

You can also change the steering power, in 3 settings, soft, medium and hard. I mean when I bought this car myself, I actually felt I had to take a peek in the manual. There are so many settings and options. This is not a car! It's a computer with an engine,

The V40 looks good. But... can't see a thing behind you. That's a fact.

And if you have all the driving assistances installed, then I suspect you're probably so busy watching all the warning displays that you can't watch the road anymore.

I'm not going to replace my V50 anytime soon...

whatcar is the single most biased car reviewer on the internet. no matter how good the car is, it will be deemed 4 star because of the infotainment system or ride quality. But if it's a BMW/Porsche/Audi, bang it's 5 star
