You are correct! My mother lived in France for a long time and of course, I lived with my mother growing up. She said in France the girls bought VERY high end, well made clothing and sometimes even tailored them or had them made. The girls (and my mom) kept basic colored pants, a pair of jeans, very tailored basic shirts, only about 25 clothing items BUT they did dress them up and change the look using scarves and jewelry. She could literally make hundreds of outfits using accessories but kept only her basics.

Hi justine! I'm from India and I'm glad you remembered that ceremonial clothing are a whole other chapter..occasional wear which are specials and can't be capsuled.
I'm also a textile designer so I know some of the stuff you speak about and still get to learn new things 😍you're doing a great job, keep it up!

I love this lady, she is so down to earth and natural. She knows her stuff and she doesn't make videos that are about real life.

To me, you are just like the Lisa Eldridge of fashion and style. So accurate and classy, your tips are beyond helpful. Many thanks and all my admiration from Paris. Cindy

Correction: for the Jenn Rogers example, I meant "7 jackets", not "7 pairs of shoes" 😅😇 The text is right, the voice is wrong. Thanks for flagging the error 😘

I come back to Justine's videos once every couple of years when I consider how my style is changing and what do i need in terms of fashion. I rewatch a lot of stuff, because no matter if you view it now, a couple of years ago or in the future, her advice and expertise is timeless. Thank you for all your work!

I bought 1 tee-shirt you designed and it's just perfection! The fabric, the cut, the color (blanc cassé) everything feels luxurious. Since I found no space on your website for customer feedback, I'm using this platform to express my delight about your design. I'm going to buy the black one as well. Yes, it's pricey but I prefer to buy very little things but things that last instead of cheap tees, for ex, that looks terrible after 100 wash and are made by underpaid, abused workers and perhaps even by children. I'm dying to see your summer collection since I live in the West Indies. And yes, the delivery was flawless as well.

I use the Marie Kondo method where you keep only what brings you joy.

Justine, I came across your channel only yesterday but I binge-watched all of your videos... I am not even into fashion that much (although I haven't watched your "So you think you don't follow trends?" video yet - I might reconsider after this, haha), but I LOVE your content and your personality. You are so put together, eloquent, and endearing at the same time. Your videos are very well thought out with not just excellent advice, but also structure. Keep it up! xxx

I m doing the capsule wardrobe. I decluttered so much stuff. Now I thrifted the few items I really needed, or wanted. It makes life easier, decisions are made faster. My brain is thankful for this. And I m no longer late for work

Hi, Justine! I wanted to let you know that after watching this video I took your advice, threw out bags and bags of old clothing from my mid-20's, and am now in the process of filling out a capsule wardrobe for each summer and winter with high quality, classic pieces, that look fabulous, fit right, and will last. Watching your channel has helped me so much, and makes me wish that my mother had taught me more about fashion as she did modeling in France in the 60's. At least I am figuring it out at last in my mid 30's! I feel so much more confident, relaxed, and happy now that I don't have to angst over what looks good or what I am going to wear.

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

Did this last night and today the local thrift store got a lot of clothes today. I did my capsule a bit different but an extension of yours. I separated my first pass into the 3 piles, including this season's clothes into the first pile, you mentioned. I then set aside all my Autumn/Winter clothes, from the first pile, I separated into 3 piles, Wear all season everyday basics, key pieces and feature pieces and a special 4th pile the LBD ;-) I did that for the Autumn/Winter pile too. Then I took the all season basics and made that into a wear across both capsules and then the other 2 seasons' capsules.
I'm SO happy with the results.

After the purge, I came up with the following tally:
All season basics (16 everyday basic/6 Key pieces/3 feature pieces, with a total of 27 this included my LBD category too)
Spring/Summer (6 everyday basic/3 Key pieces/6 feature pieces, with a total of 15)
Autumn/Winter (4 everyday basic/2 Key pieces/6 feature pieces, with a total of 12)

Of course, I got completely ocd with this and image logged all my clothes, created an excel spread sheet and micro organized it further (don't judge) but, a really big but here, it was REALLY cleansing and I got to re-examine my reasoning behind the need to shop for unnecessary clothes. My eyes opened to how easily clothing got pushed to the back of the closet, but I also gave me the opportunity to "shop my closet" while I purged that which isn't needed any longer simultaneously!

I seriously recommend anyone to do this, it really sharpens your perspective on your style and your shopping habits as well as getting a nice clean closet again!

I love love love the way you say certain words like iron and closet and clothes and Justine!
Please never change that. Ever. You're the best!

I'm 21 and after moving away to university I realised just how much hoarded stuff I've kept. Living in England almost all of my clothes are winter clothes with only 10 summer items for when I visit friends in France in the summer. 3 shorts, 2 dresses and 4 tops plus a beach wrap. My wardrobe still has clothes from when I was 14, which admittedly some of which still fits. I'm definitely going to create a capsule wardrobe. How much less cluttered my life will be! Merci Justine! Ceci vraiment rafraîchissant.
