That suggestion about having different necklines in your tops is honestly such a great tip. I feel like when people think of a capsule wardrobe, they think of someone wearing the same exact crew neck tee but purchased 3x in different colors, and then all the outfits just end up accidentally looking the same. On the other hand, you could have 3 white tees but if one's a crew neck, one's a sweetheart neckline, and one's a mockneck/turtleneck, they're all going to have very different vibes and bring something unique to the table.

My goodness, thank you thank you! I've been trying to get the "formula" for this figured out and it seemed to evade me. I appreciated the details of your explanation: get one set, 1 patterned piece, make sure all tops and bottoms are compatible, etc. I took notes on every thing and it's spectacular. It's just enough information without taking up a lot of time. I'm going to go home and evaluate my stuff using your formula and get rid of the excess that is driving me crazy. I think you gave the perfect amount for reliable variety, time to do laundry/repair, and have a system that is very manageable. I can actually do this. I'm sharing it with my mom and daughters. More is not always better, it's exhausting.
