Passenger planes today are comfortable and reliable, but could they fly faster? The latest engineering developments suggest we could speed planes up several times over, creating true aircraft of the future.

From the shape of the plane and the choice of engine and fuel, to the environmental impact and economic viability – a European research project is studying, in cooperation with Japan, all aspects of passenger flight at several times the speed of sound.

euronews knowledge brings you a fresh mix of the world's most interesting know-hows, directly from space and sci-tech experts.

Its weird to be german and hearing a translation from german to english wich your brain automaticly translates back to german lol XD Also interesting concept. Graphene? XD

Why not make a passenger plane that goes at Mach 15 that is powered by turbo-scramjet’s and turbo cooled engines that also have a little bit of onboard oxidizer to power a rocket engine, which will power it into a suborbital trajectory, it will bring them from New York to Tokyo in less than 45 minutes

Why not go high hypersonic(>Mach 10) airliners

Did I hear them right? Liquid hydrogen!? Are they serious its ok for the bus, the bus doesn't generate heat, but mixing heat and hydrogen is such a bad idea.
