I've never known why it's pronounced like this. Best explanation ever. Thank you, Sayaka-sensei! I love when you get into the linguistics.

I think this is something that people pick up naturally as you immerse yourself more in the language…it’s like a natural adaptation of the language for people to speak quickly.

A few of my classmates in Japanese class pronounce every "です" like "deh-sue" and it's driving me absolutely insane. Idk why the teacher hasn't corrected them 😂😭

Thanks, I always had trouble pronouncing 失礼します so this was really helpful!

Understanding that the difference is stressed and unstressed consonants is really helpful. I knew that some vowels were silent but I didn't know why and just memorized the words that have silent vowels. This makes learning new words much easier.

Great explanation but now we need a Sayaka beat-boxing video using the voiceless consonants… 😂

Me being able to pronounce Shitsureishimasu flawlessly on the first try means I've watched way too much animu

It's like the "silent" letters/syllables in certain words in English! Like, "knife", "cough", "though", etc.

Japanese: remove one letter from pronunciation.

From my perspective, it seems o can be voiceless or almost voiceless sometimes.

And it is interesting that Japanese people can hear the differences between voiceless vowels like shi and shu or chi and chu.

し しゅ ち ちゆ

Those ones.

I thought it was gonna be like:
Bob-cut: Hey Sayaka, Can you read this?
Sayaka: Suki-desu
Bob-cut: I like you, too.

Para los hablantes nativos del español, pronunciar el japonés es súper sencillo.

As someone who took french in Highschool, this makes total sense to me, French does the same thing all the time, especially with the ends of words.
