I am 76 years old and never squatted before. I have been a health nut, but no squatting. The very first day after squatting for 30 minutes, my constipation ended. I am now14 days into squatting, and squatting has become my favorite exercise, even if it still hurts like hell. Nothing beats perfect pooping after being constipated for years.

I started doing this challenge when I was 6 months old, it's been 26 years, yes I am from INDIA that's how people sit in rural India.

There is another thing we naturally do in this position: give birth! This is how I instinctively gave birth at home, and how I managed 2 hours of pushing - I was in a birthing tub, hanging on to my husband's wrists as he sat opposite me out of the water. It was hard, but no injuries to me or baby (who just turned 14!) As a lifelong ballet dancer, this position felt natural and relatively easy.

Laying the floor, stretching, hanging, deep squats, sitting cross legged are all things that have changed my life. Modern man is killing himself with comfort.

I started my journey of learning to squat comfortably 15 years ago at age 55. The older you are the longer it takes. We are all born with the ability to squat comfortably, but lose it by the age of 2 unless it is part of our culture.
My advice is to go very slow and be gentile with your body. All life forms avoid pain and discomfort instinctively. So if a person tries to push through the pain, the subconscious mind will naturally want to avoid repeating the activity that caused the pain. There is no hurry. Perfection lies down the road, you will never get there, but just keep walking. Or squatting.
After 15 years I'm 90% there. About the same time I set a goal to be able to sit in the full lotus position comfortably, and I'm 80% there. My new goal is to be able to stand up from the cross legged position without using my hands! I'm only 5% there.

You sounded so convincing. Stepped into the first day of the 30 day challenge today. Tore open the crotch of my favorite shorts. Thanks a lot. 😅

You can do it, folks. I'm in my mid-70s, been doing this for a few years--easy to tuck into your day; spur of the moment, any ol time. Makes a big difference.

Love the suggestions of how to fit this in, especially the one for when you're dinking around on the internet. I have a bad YouTube habit, and I could see how only allowing myself to watch YouTube while in a deep squat would help me accomplish two goals at once.

Thankfully in the eastern and african and arab world this is how we poop. And how we set. And because of that we have tremendous power on our lower body. For example My grandfather he is vert fat. About 120KG WEIGHT (ABOUT 280 POUNDS) AND 89 years old. And because of this position in our nature he is still driving cars and doing everything a young person can do normally. And walk for hours. And don't have any illness like blood pressure or diabetes.

I do this while playing video games, 15 min straight and when I stand up the feeling of blood rushing through my legs is so damn satisfying 👍

While I doubt I will take the challenge I am now on my 10th day of squatting. At 67 my first day hurt and could not place my heels gave up at 30 seconds. 10 days later I am up to 4 minutes heels down. Major changes in my flexibility from my ankles through my mid back.

I did this challenge about 4 years ago and now spend probably 2 hours a day in a resting squat - it’s a really comfortable position once you push through the early days

I am 77 I totally agree with everything here. I have been doing Crossfit since I was 70. And yes, you can do it you are older, you just need to hold to something and go as far as you can. I would only that it is important to keep you back straight at all time (back extended). And no you won’t wreck your knees. Good luck!
