From high flying wings to splitters and spoilers, Aero makes cars look cool, but they also help cars handle! Aerodynamics is the study of how all that works, and it’s actually a few simple concepts that are responsible for all the weird shapes we stick n cars. There’s a lot of different factors that affect drag, downforce and how well cars move, so let’s get into it. This episode is all about Aero, and HOW IT WORKS!

Bart teaches us how cars work by blowing stuff up and cutting things in half. It’s a science show for the car lover who’s easily bored. Join Bart as he explains the science behind everything automotive. This is cars down to the atom. This is Science Garage.

Some of our best videos ever are coming out soon, stay tuned so you won't miss a thing!

I love how he explains things like I am an idiot. Because I am, in fact, an idiot.

Here's an idea for you, one of the areas of a car with the lowest pressure is the edge between the front bumper and hood. So next time you see a hood scoop or a headlight deleted into an air intake, realize it is literally the dumbest spot to put an intake, the intake is actually sucking air out of the engine.
You have to be going something like 200-300 mph before compression of the air molecules occurs and a "ram" air intake is possible.

But remember kids, a Huge wing doesn't mean a faster car.
In fact, your top speed drops.

Well, that was refreshing! Great content. Imaginatively written and performed. Nice production values. I applaud your editors and whole team. That was fun.

As an aviation enthusiast, I try to explain this to those crazy kids in my neighborhood who swap engines and turbo boost without knowing the first thing about aerodynamics. People who speed in the rain also scare me. They don't realize that the side profile of most cars is generally the same as that of an airplane wing. In fact, anyone who's ever gotten a wing seat has seen how a wing has to change shape before and after landing to spoil lift and promote traction. This video is awesome👍
